Modern Day Drifter by Dierks Bentley

Modern Day Drifter by Dierks Bentley

This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Personnel: Dierks Bentley (vocals, guitar); Bryan Sutton (acoustic guitar, banjo); Del McCoury, Steven Sheehan (acoustic guitar); J.T. Corenflos, Rod Janzen (electric guitar); Gary Morse (pedal steel guitar); Rob McCoury (banjo); Ronnie McCoury (mandolin); Aubrey Haynie, Jason Carter (fiddle); Mike Bub (double bass); Jimmy Carter (bass guitar); Steve Brewster (drums); Alison Krauss, Wes Hightower, Russell Terrell, Lona R. Heins (background vocals). When hearing about Dierks Bentley's life, the title of MODERN DAY DRIFTER begins to make sense; the Nashville-based singer spends nearly 300 days a year on the road, playing everything from frat houses to small-town fairs. All this hard work has paid off in spades, as Bentley's sophomore record has that no-frills, worn-in feeling that characterizes the best country music. Refreshingly free of faux-hillbilly novelty songs and over-the-top sentimentality, MODERN DAY D...

Pros Excellent from start to finish
Cons He does not wear a cowboy hat!
Recommended it? Yes

Dierks Bentley is to me more of a guitar man than just a country singer. He crosses the country and pop line and steams it up big time in a sexy and romantic "Come a Little Closer".

In this album Dierks mixes some beer drinking bar songs and I love listening the soft melodies from his... Read full review »

Pros Settle For A Slowdown; great vocals by Dierks throughout the album.
Cons Lyrics detract more often than they shine; doesn't have very many standout tracks.
Recommended it? Yes

I love Dierks Bentley. I bought his first album, and loved it basically from top to bottom. What Was I Thinkin', How Am I Doin', My Last Name, I Wish It Would Break, and more...Dierks put out an absolutely fantastic debut CD. I hadn't nearly gotten sick of playing out that CD yet, when I heard this... Read full review »

Pros Some great songs, appearances by the Del McCoury Band & Alison Krauss, and no pop-country.
Cons Features some unimpressive lyrics, has more of a commercial vibe than anything he's...
Recommended it? Yes

He's stuck somewhere in the middle of being a bland Nashville act and a talented alt-country/neo-traditional country artist. I say this with a mixture of fondness and disdain because even though he's much... Read full review »
