Raided Raptors Rock!
The "guts" of my current system consist of the following:
a pair of Western Digital WD360GD Raptors RAID 0 with 64K stripes on a Silicon Images 3112 Controller.....
Modified "thermally advantaged" Pacman mid tower case, Antec 550 W PSU, Intel 915 motherboard, P4 LGA775 64 bit 3.4 Ghz...

Fast but...
I purchased this drive to use as the primary drive to replace a 30.7 GB, 7,200 rpm Maxtor drive that was starting to squeal (yeh, scary!). The Maxtor drive was a factory replacement for one that had crashed so I couldn't get the Raptor installed fast enough.
I would have preferred a...

More like a Cheetah
Why the name "Raptor"? It isn't huge. It's fast! Why not a Cheetah? Oh, I think we just infringed on Seagate's trademark. :) Crap... Well, enough with the Sienfeld-like observations.
I would NOT have picked these up if they weren't at least highly discounted, and during Fry's Electronics...

fast little devil
The Western Digital Raptor, 36.7 GB Hard Drive was built for speed. I mean that this is insanely fast. At 10000RPM and the average data seek as fast as 4.5ms because of this my games load levels so fast it is astonishing. The only sound coming from this speed demon is an insignificant whine, which... WD360 performance unpredictable; WD support worthless
Two and a half months ago, I purchased a new DFI LanParty motherboard utilizing the latest in Serial ATA (SATA) disk drive attachment interface with an imbedded RAID controller. Since I'm building a video capture system, I need lots of very fast, reliable disk storage. The motherboard has an... Read full review »
The (second) Fastest non-scsi Drive available
It's been a fun ride in the desktop hardware bix these past few years, and it's pretty interesting to see how speed and technology have incrementally advanced. Most of my current business centers around "performance" desktop machines, specifically custom gaming rigs and it's been that way since the... Read full review »
Western Digital Raptor 36G
When I first installed this baby it ran smooth and quiet!
It was a very exciting event.....but how long will it last?
I've been using it for two weeks and I'm experiencing some weird things. The drive makes a clicking sound upon boot up. (clicks at a steady tempo) The drive will not...

Got the need for speed? Here you go!
I finally broke down and got one of these when I was building a new computer for myself. I never thought I would be so impressed. After getting a faster processor, more RAM and a better video card I tried things out on my old 7200RPM hard drive. Yes things were faster but this hard drive made the... Read full review »
Downside to Serial ATA
I bought one of these Serial ATA drives for a customer of mine. Straight from the package it was broken, my wholesaler wouldn't warranty it, and now Western Digital is reviewing the item. The thin shelf the serial pins lay on is very fragile, and can crack off easily.. Mine was gone before I... Read full review »
If you want a fast hard drive, BUY THIS NOW!!!
Now that I raved a little about the product, I will get to the details.
Capacity:
This is not why you buy this drive. If you want capacity, stop reading now. You will not get the best bang for the buck with this product with regards to storage size. This drive is the sports car of...

Finally
The drive is quiet and fast. Gamers, Video editors, and hardcore computer geeks have been wanting a 10,000 PATA (non SCSI) drive and the raptor fills that need. The Serial ATA cable is cheep and can break easily. (it happend to me) The increased air flow and flexibilty of the SATA cable are great... Read full review »
Western Digital Breaks New Ground
Let me start by saying I have hideously bad luck with hard drives. I drive my computer hard, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and about 360 days a year. In the last 3 years I've killed the following drives: IBM deskstar-9 months, Maxtor Something-6 months, Another Maxtor-6 months, and a Western... Read full review »

WD Raptor 36.70 GB 3.5 Internal Hard Drive - 1 Pack - SATA - 10000 rpm - 8 MB Buffer
The exploding growth of enterprise data storage puts tremendous pressure on IT managers, who must accommodate ever-greater volume with ever-tighter budgets. This increased need for enterprise storage, coupled with the decline in IT budgets, creates a need for reliable, low-cost solutions. Enter Serial ATA (SATA), a new interface developed with enterprise storage in mind. Some hard drive companies design desktop-class hard drives with the SATA interface, but WD is going one better. To meet the demands of enterprise storage, Western Digital is the only company to combine an enterprise-class hard drive with the SATA interface to meet all the demands of the enterprise environment- reliability, performance, and reduced cost.
