Does not stand the test of time
The last review for Enya’s first widely recognized recording Watermark was six years ago. Why go back that far not only in a review but in time since it is 20 years since its release? There are perhaps cynical reasons, but there is something wider. How often do you look back at pictures that are... Read full review »
Enya's "Watermark": Great Music to Relax By
Enya's Watermark really is a pretty CD. And though it is relaxing, easy listening, bubble bath and candle light type music, it isn't musical lobotomy music, like Kenny G. and some other "new age" music. Her voice is beautiful, and the layered, synthesized music that accompanies her is perfect, as... Read full review »
Close your eyes, and go with the (Orinoco) flow
After listening to, and thoroughly enjoying, Enya?s ?A Day Without Rain?, her latest album which I purchased for my husband as a Christmas gift, I decided to raid his collection and listen to some other works by this Irish artist.
The only track that I recognized prior to listening to...

Kicks Hard With an Ugly Funk Influence...NOT!
No, I'm only kidding, seeing as Enya's "Watermark" is really something more akin to musical phenobarbitol. This album, which I've been hearing winding out from the living room for the past week since my roommate brought it home from the library, is so slow it almost requires time-lapse photography... 12 Tracks of Pure Soothe
?Watermark? is maybe the most famous New Age album of all time. It sold by the millions, had a top 10 chart hit, and was licensed in TV shows, ads and movies almost to the degree of Moby?s ?Play?.
It was the album that truly gained Enya fame. Her previous effort, the self-titled ?Enya?...

Afloat on Watermark
Even though I mentioned in my review of "The Celts" by Enya that I loved her music, I'll say it again, I LOVE HER MUSIC! From the very first song, "Watermark," I sat back, closed my eyes, and imagined myself in a different place. The first song is so beautiful that it nearly brings tears to my... Read full review »
My First Love
I entitled this review "my first love" because of two reasons. The first reason being that my first love quite literally introduced me to the sounds of Enya. One starry night as we had a romantic, candlelit dinner these amazing sounds wafted through the air on the back of the incense. It was Enya's... Read full review »
There's just something about this music
I was first introduced to Enya by my high school art teacher, who would play this CD at least once a week because he was certain that it would stimulate our creative output. I must admit that the first time I heard the CD, I did not like it very much. Then I listened to it again, and again, and... Read full review »
Something Truly Magical Put To Music
This is one album that I never get tired of hearing. The first time I put Watermark into my CD player I was enthralled from beginning to end. I had initially intended to use it as background music while reading but I got swept up into the artistry. After a couple of listens it started to make... Read full review »
Enya just keeps pumpin'...
This CD is one of my favorites out of all of my CD collection. Enya is an Irish-born celtic artist who has an incredible voice. She has released at least 5 CDs and all of them are excellent. She combines the soft melodies of celtic music with her vocal ability to make a truly superb album. I bought... Read full review »

Watermark
Enya's 1988 recording Watermark achieved landmark success with her groundbreaking use of multi-tracking technology to fuse new age and Celtic themes and instrumentation. The meticulous production defines her sound and achieves continuity even while weaving together tender ballads, piano pieces, massively layered vocal harmonies, and symphonic synthesizer movements. Although Enya's pristine voice isn't especially strong, her lead vocals possess a vulnerability that reflects the lyrics' sense of personal searching. From the ubiquitous, frothy single "Orinoco Flow" (which was used to hawk Crystal Light on TV) to the hard, bold edge of "Cursum Perficio," Enya's style remains fresh and engaging today. --Richard Price
