A Volcano in Los Angeles, or Mark Furhman Meets Lava
As if there’s not already enough problems in California with fires, earthquakes, mudslides and typhoons (not to mention recall elections), Los Angeles is about to get it’s very own volcano.
The first hint that something is amiss is a small earthquake. Meanwhile, in the...

Tommy Lee Jones Faces a Volcano in California
Disaster movies have been made for years with some being more successful than others. I have enjoyed several of them over the years. I recently decided to watch Volcano again, the second movie about a volcano to be released in 1997.
Mike Roark was supposed to be on vacation from his job...

Please let the coast be toast so this can end!
Tommy Lee Jones plays a guy whose name isn't even worth remembering.. Mike something... he works for the disaster dept of California or LA or some such. The movie starts out with an earthquake (no big deal for LA) and a conflict with workers wanting to bore down through a fault and seismologists... Read full review »
Probably Tommy Lee Jones' Worst Movie Yet.
This movie was probably the fifth or sixth disaster movie to come out in 1997. If the advertisements did not tell you what it was about, anyone could have guessed since all the disaster films have pretty much the same ingredients. There is always the clever scientist who tries in vain to tell... Read full review »
"Forget The Volcano, I Was Ready To Spew And Erupt!!!!"
I enjoy a disaster film, now and again and I must say..."Volcano" lives up to the term disaster. I hate to admit it, but I saw this cinematic achievement, in mediocrity...and was I disappointed. This had to be the worst film I have ever been dragged to. How does garbage like this, get the go ahead,... Read full review »
The secret of the ooze
As a critic I must remain as unbiased as possible before viewing a film. But I had mixed feelings going into "Volcano" because I knew what was going to happen. However, as routine as the film turned out to be, I found myself genuinely interested throughout.
The film works in the spirit of...

A Volcano In Los Angeles??
Could this really happen? They say in this movie, when an Earth Quake accrues, the crack can open up. Underneath is the center of the earth, where the Lava is.
Tommy Lee Jones is Mike. He works for The Office of Emergency Management in Los Angeles. He has moved from St. Louis with his...

What a Bust!
This movie seemed interesting when you saw previews for it. Maybe that's because they put all the good moments into the preview. This movie is hard to get into. You are trying to imagine the possibility of a volcano being underneath LA and I never quite grasped that idea myself. The movie is rather... Read full review »
Worst Movie I've Ever Payed Money To See
I went to see this movie because my brother said it was better than Dante's Peak. Dante's Peak was a one time mediocre day at the movies. Volcano was a thankfully one time hellacious day at the movies.
I have never seen a worse movie at the movie theatre. It was deplorable. It was a...

Meltdown.
Let's examine the implausibilities of the 1997 film "Volcano".
A: A volcano springs up in the middle of Los Angeles
B: Somebody didn't notice it before.
C: A building collapses on Tommy Lee's kid and she's fine.
D: A man rescues a passed out driver by walking on lava and...

Volcano [VHS]
Get mindless for awhile with this 1997 disaster flick, starring the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles as a funky place for lava to spew, plus Tommy Lee Jones and Anne Heche as the brave souls who know how to shut off the spout. Director Mick Jackson (The Bodyguard) wastes no time getting to the good stuff--it's happening even before opening credits are over--and neither should anyone in the mood for technical efficiency without the burden of art. --Tom Keogh
