Pros Quality Construction, Easy to Use, Compact
Cons no PC cable port

This flash is great for off-camera lighting.  It is easy to quickly adjust the flash power with the dial on the front and my remote triggers fire the flash just fine.  The flash does have a descent amount of power and works well with a 3-strobe setup.  The flash head has a slot that makes it easy... Pros Great for portraits, and distance shots. Wonderful for large group photographs
Cons Heavy and a battery hog unless you have a battery pack
Recommended it? Yes

I bought my Vivitar 285 flash in 1983. I traveled around the world with it. I used it through art school and for many years after. To my absolute surprise and horror, it died last year the night before I was to photograph a group of 75 people!

The body is very durable and the flash... Read full review »

Pros Powerful, wide-angle coverage
Cons Heavy and bulky. Can't use the light sensor off-unit without using an expensive cord
Recommended it? Yes

I was fairly pleased with this flash unit - its quite powerful (more than I usually need), has several manual and automatic settings, and a head that adjusts the angle of coverage (from 70 x 53 degrees (about the coverage of a 28 mm lens) to 27 x 20 degrees (105 mm or longer)). With this... Read full review »
