Great for off-camera!
This flash is great for off-camera lighting. It is easy to quickly adjust the flash power with the dial on the front and my remote triggers fire the flash just fine. purchasing my 2nd 285 flash
I bought my Vivitar 285 flash in 1983. I traveled around the world with it. I used it through art school and for many years after. To my absolute surprise and horror, it died last year the night before I was to photograph a group of 75 people!

A trusty workhorse
I have had my Vivitar 285 for many years without any problems. I like the fact that it is automatic in the different preset ranges and does an excellent job.
