Pros You can brag you own the most expensive detector on the planet.Big Wupp!
Cons You didn't save yourself a lot of money by buying a Bell or Passport!:(
Recommended it? No

Glowing remarks here about the V-1 and I can tell you three quarters have been directly lifted from the V-1 web site!I was a "big fan" of the V-1 till I used it for a while.Benchmark! It's an overpriced, underperforming ugly dinosaur. The V-1 is sensitive alright,it has to be the most squawky detector... Pros No false alerts. Amazing sensitivity. Build quality. Directional arrows. Lifetime...
Cons A little expensive. No voice alerts. No SMS. The speaker could be a litle louder.
Recommended it? Yes

I purchased my Valentine 1 a little over two years ago after owning a top-of-the-line Bel 980(at the time) and absolutely recommend the Valentine 1. Period. In my comparison, I drove my daily commute for a year with each model. This drive is from Santa Cruz, CA to San Jose, CA over the notoriously... Read full review »

Jan. 2004 - Compared V1 to Passport 8500 on long trip

byskstx Jan 5, 2004

Pros Build quality, superior detection, really the best
Cons At night, hard to read the type of radar being detected
Recommended it? Yes

Since there were pros/cons on both sides of the table with these two products, I just purchased both of them (30 day money back guarantee makes this possible!) and tried out both of them on my trip over the holidays. They were both good, but not once did the Passport 8500 ever sound off before the... Read full review »

Simply the best!

Pros Arrows, Sensitivity
Cons Occasional false alarms
Recommended it? Yes

The title says it all. The directional arrows are a must have for situational awareness. The sensitivity is top notch. You can buy a cheaper detector but you can't buy a better one. Valentine also has excellent customer service. I liked my V-1 so much we bought one for my wife's SUV. Read full review »

before any valentine loyalists browbeat me, i have owned a v1 since 1997, and it has saved me numerous times. in 2001, it helped me drive from chicago to LA in 28 hours straight with an overall average of 74mph. breaks were only for gas, food, bathroom and copious amounts of diet pepsi. i didnt get... Good but has a serious flaw

byrodremington Aug 25, 2003

Pros all-metal construction, sensitivity, upgradability, directional finding capability
Cons price, X-band won't shut up, detects every grocery store in your city
Recommended it? No

I've been using radar detectors since the original escort, and recently upgraded to the V1. I won't waste your time rehashing all the points that have been made ad-nauseum in the other reviews. I will say that the V-1 is solidly built, will likely last 2 or 3 times as long as most detectors, and... Read full review »

Valentine One vs Escort 8500 from someone who has had both.

Pros Sensitivity, Directional Arrows, Quick Release Suction Cups, Rear Detection
Cons Price, Some aspects of the mount, nighttime readability of the band-indicators
Recommended it? Yes

I've read many of the excellent reviews posted here on epinions regarding radar detectors. When I was researching which unit to buy, I very quickly found out that most people consider the Escort 8500 and the Valentine One (V1) the best two detectors. Being the indecisive fellow I am, I ended up... Read full review »

A radar detector for adults

Pros Simple, well-built, informative, 2 effective mounts
Cons night-time band display, a bit quiet
Recommended it? Yes

It took me 2 months to decide on a radar detector. I looked at a number of units, read lots of info, and spoke to a lot of people. In the end, the group I trusted the most was by racing buddies. These guys travel extensively, have track-prepared vehicles (Porsches and BMW's mostly), and are a... Read full review »

Cons Finds door openers you never know existed! No Auto-mute, No Auto-mute, No Auto-mute !!!

As a long time Passport user (and Escort before that) I've had several models from what used to be Cincinnati Microwave. My latest is the Passport 8500 and I've had it about two years. A colleague of mine convinced me to try the Valentine One. The early Valentine's were big and bulky but the were... Read full review »
