One of the best products I ever bought

byjcage Sep 23, 2000
4 Helpfuls 5 Helpfuls Was this review helpful? 10 Comments
Pros the best money can buy
Cons size and weight
Recommended it? Yes

I've owned a V1 for about 3 years now. It is an amazing product that delivers on every single advertising promise. Yes, it was far more expensive than every other detector, but it was well worth it. First of all, the radar locater feature puts it in an entirely different class than anything else... Read full review »

Pros Superior range,radar locator
Cons only gripe is the suction cups
Recommended it? No

I have owned many radar detectors (about 10 or so) and when the time came to upgrade I just went to the local Walmart or equivalent and laid out the 200 or so dollars and called it good for about a year. I finally broke down and bought my valentine 1 and have been using it for about 2 years now and... Read full review »

Pros It's all good
Cons hard to slide into the windshield/visor clip(that's it!)
Recommended it? Yes

I never used a radar detector before. My brother has a Valentine. I have 10 points on my license (speeding tickets). My brother has 0 points on his license. You get the picture.
I borrowed my brother's Valentine for a long road trip last month. It detected every cop on the road long, long... Read full review »

Pros easy to install, convenient, works well
Cons slightly expensive
Recommended it? Yes

I have recently found the need to purchase one of these units because of a recent speeding ticket I received. I was only going about 10 miles an hour over the speed limit; however, I realized that I can not afford the increasing ticket prices and the points on my license. I had long thought about... Pros Sensitive, effective, makes you feel safe.
Cons its a little pricey
Recommended it? Yes

I am one who is at ease driving my car and quite often I speed when I'm not really thinking about it. I rely heavily on my radar detector to remind me that I'm going a little too fast when I approach a speed trap or a police officer who is radaring. Now don't get me wrong. A radar detector can't... Pays for itself in a month

Pros Few false alarms, Gives direction of radar
Cons none
Recommended it? Yes

My family has one of these for every car, and each one of them was worth the 399 we paid. For anyone who can't drive 55, you need one of these. Easily out performs every other radar detector I have ever seen. I personally am a very fast driver, with the amount of long distance, and local driving I... Read full review »

The ONLY real protection

byDauber Aug 14, 2000
12 Helpfuls 13 Helpfuls Was this review helpful? 6 Comments
Pros Features, Sensitivity, Stealth from VG2
Cons Takes time to learn how to effectively read layout
Recommended it? Yes

Many of you are probably familiar with the Right Guard motto, "Anything less would be uncivilized". Well, that about sums up the Valentine One compared to other detectors.

Yes, $399 is a lot of money for a radar detector, but, with insurance premiums running close to $500 for even a small... Read full review »

Pros Direction finder, easy to use, sensitive
Cons Bulky, expensive
Recommended it? Yes

I have a lead foot. Always have, probably always will. I didn't learn my lesson in high school - I was given 10 or so warnings before receiving my first speeding ticket. After that, I was just lucky for 5 years. Then I got 3 tickets in 8 months. I decided that I needed to get a detector. I did a... Read full review »

One Product Where Looks Don't Count

bySteveBing Jul 14, 2000

Pros earliest detection, direction locator, all bands covered
Cons window "stickies" have a temperature dependence
Recommended it? Yes

I subscribe to a few auto magazines. Over the past couple of years, I recall seeing the face of this goofy middle-aged guy with wire-rimmed glasses on some ad. Finding his face objectionable for some reason (actually he closely resembles someone I don't too much care for), I always quickly turned... Read full review »

Radar Detector? What an understatement!!

bystuffman Jul 11, 2000
7 Helpfuls 8 Helpfuls Was this review helpful? 10 Comments
Pros Untouchable detection, Great features, Destroys the competition.
Cons Kinda big and expensive, but I don't think that matters for what you get.
Recommended it? Yes

My father does an awful lot of traveling, sometimes well over 40000 miles per year. Most of it is on the major interstates, and a good radar detector is necessary. We had a Whisler for a while, it seemed to detect the police AFTER we did, and that is a bad thing. Reading all of the car and driver... Read full review »
