Pros Easy programming. Tactile activity selection. Durable. Reasonable price.
Cons No significant issues.

If you are considering your first activity-based remote, the Logitech Harmony 880 is the only real option. What is an activity-based remote? It groups a series of remote control commands into categories (known as activities) that allow you to turn on all of the necessary components involved in a... Read full review »

Pros Easy to Use, Great Design, Simple Setup

My husband purchased this remote as a Christmas gift for me.  I love it!  The best features are that it can be used to control about anything with a remote and it's rechargeable!  We've gone from about 10 remotes to 1!

It's also very durable.  It has fallen onto the... Read full review »

This is our second harmony remote. We upgraded from the 688 and so glad we did. The best features are the sensor that turns the screen on when you pick it up and the rechargeable battery. Setup took all of 10 minutes. Read full review »

I've written several reviews on universal remotes on epinions over the years.  This review is about the Logitech Harmony 880 remote, one that I've owned for nearly 3 years, and it is by far the best universal remote I've ever owned.

The best statement that I can possibly make about the... Read full review »

Pros Great Design, Easy to Use, Intuitive

This remote works great with our Tivo, LG LCD TV and Sony DVD player.  It knows which components to turn on and when to turn them on.  As long as you keep the remote pointed at the TV until its done, everything will be turned on and put to the correct input.  Very useful for babysitters and guests... Pros Easy to use.
Cons Response can be slow. Charging base is flaky

This remote replaced 4 of my remotes. The settings are store on an online account with Logitech so you never have to worry about losing them. The initial setup took about 30 minutes. The help function on the remote is very useful when you have issues.

My two complaints are:

My wife was complaining about not being able to get anything to work with our new system.  Yet, she was not willing to have me pay the $250 for a Harmony One.  Some reconditioned 880s were put on sale at Amazon for under $90, so I jumped.  I am glad I did.  The set up was easier than reviews had... Pros Should be a nice way to consolidate remotes (TBD)
Cons DOA, hard buttons don't work right out of the box.
Recommended it? No

Nice remote, and certainly should help me consolidate all of the various remotes I have today. However when I received it, and programed the devices as it tells you to, the devices would not all turn on. Basically certain hard buttons are totally non responsive. So I resorted to contacting them and... Read full review »

Pros One remote works all of your components.
Cons The initial programming of the remote on Logitech's website.

This remote is awesome. I saw this remote in Best Buy. The salesman demonstrated it for me and it looked promising. However, I was skeptical of the price, and I really didn't think it would operate all of the functions of my home theatre system components.

My wife gave me (and her) this... Read full review »

I now own two Harmony remotes the first being one of the originals. If you are familiar with these remotes you can skip this introduction section.

Pros Great for replacing all your remotes, easy to use.
Cons None to speak of.

The 880 can control virtually any of your audio/video components (called "devices"). Setup is pretty simple. You install Logitech's software, which connects to the Internet and accesses Logitech's database once you set up an account. Before running the software, make sure you have a list of the... Pros Slim, easy navigation, family-friendly, backlit, intuitive interface.
Cons Finessing detailed programming a chore, pricey, mechanical buttons may fail over time.

I bought this model in 2006, and it was indeed a big step up from a cluster of single-use remotes. The 880 was my replacement for a Sony Remote Commander AVR-1100, which is a big, boxy remote control with a huge backlit LCD screen with dozens of soft buttons on it.

Pros Easiest universal remote to program I have every used. Period.
Cons Build quality may be suspect; keys are small and lack tactile feedback.
Recommended it? Yes

Firstly, let me get the obvious out of the way - no universal remote is as good as the original unit that came with your component. But, the 880 comes close.

The 880 is a replacement for my three year old Sony Commander (the brick with the touchscreen). The Sony is ok with Sony... Read full review »

After waiting too long with 3 remotes on the coffee table, I purchased the Harmony 880 from Amazon for $129.00.

Pros Very easy set up and use; gets rid of the need for multiple remotes
Cons Previous and Mute keys hard to read; channel and volume controls should be bigger

With my home theater set up, I need 3 remotes to watch a DVD or TV. Plus, whenever I switch from one to the other, I need to adjust the video input settings and other configurations.
