The Activities Based Remote Concept

The Logitech 880 is an activity based universal remote. Once configured, using a computer with web access, the remote is easy to use even by family members who don't understand how the home entertainment system is configured. Instead of memorizing which... Read full review »

Pros Easy programming. Tactile activity selection. Durable. Reasonable price.
Cons No significant issues.
Recommended it? Yes

If you are considering your first activity-based remote, the Logitech Harmony 880 is the only real option. What is an activity-based remote? It groups a series of remote control commands into categories (known as activities) that allow you to turn on all of the necessary components involved in a... Read full review »

I now own two Harmony remotes the first being one of the originals. If you are familiar with these remotes you can skip this introduction section.

Introduction to Harmony Remotes

Pros Easiest universal remote to program I have every used. Period.
Cons Build quality may be suspect; keys are small and lack tactile feedback.
Recommended it? Yes

Firstly, let me get the obvious out of the way - no universal remote is as good as the original unit that came with your component. But, the 880 comes close.

The 880 is a replacement for my three year old Sony Commander (the brick with the touchscreen). The Sony is ok with Sony... Read full review »

Pros You can pay more for a remote. But this may still be the best.
Cons You can pay less. And if you're satisfied with less, do so.
Recommended it? Yes

There are a lot of universal remote controls on the market. You can buy one at Radio Shack for $20. So why spend $150 on the Logitech Harmony 880? Because everything works.

Most universal remotes aren't really universal. They do the main things, but they don't do the little things that... Read full review »

After expanding our bedroom electronics setup to include multiple devices, we found ourselves with 5 remotes. After dealing with the temperamental nature of Sony's Remote Commander, the way too basic All in One remote, programmable cable box remotes ETC, we were about to give up on the idea that we... Pros Easy setup, functions flawlessly, looks great.
Cons Expensive

This remote works flawlessly, even better than I hoped for. In thinking about it, for the price it should. First my setup:
- Panasonic 42" plasma
- Oppo DVD player
- DirecTV receiver
- Denon A/V receiver
- Pioneer CD changer

The annoying thing with my TV is that... Read full review »

I recently purchased an LCD TV from NIKO for a great price and then discovered that I could not program my cable box remote to turn off the TV because it would not accept the program codes of the TV. So, in order to turn the TV off I had to use the remote that came with the TV. This was becoming a... Read full review »

Like most people who have an assortment of video and audio devices, I had a growing collection of remotes that was driving me nuts. After a year with a Sony universal, one of the buttons broke so without doing any research I asked the salesman for a recommendation and purchased the Harmony 880... Read full review »

Power Failure

Pros Does exactly as advertised--when it has power
Cons Hardware Problem charging the remote rendered the device useless after one year
Recommended it? No

The Harmony 880 initially worked great and exactly as advertised. Once you input your devices, the remote automatically sets up macros that allow television to turn on or DVD to play with one key--excellent. Then the trouble began. The remote is without batteries and dependent on charging through... Read full review »
