I am the original owner of a 2000 SR5 Extended Cab V-8 with 106K miles, and while it has not been as bad as others I've read about - especially the transmissions going out - it probably is my last Toyota. And it's worth noting that my first ever new car was a 1975 Toyota SR5 Corolla, and the Tundra... Read full review »

After buying my 2000 Tundra one year used years ago I still can't get over how lucky I got or what a wonderful decision I made in purchasing this truck.

Especially after taking it on a road trip where last week i returned from a one week road trip that put 2000+ miles on it and my wife... Read full review »

Tundra is best value in a V8 truck

byri_transplant Sep 8, 2006
4 Helpfuls 5 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros V8 power, quiet, great handling, comfortable front seats
Cons Rear seat back is too vertical for comfort on longer rides.
Recommended it? Yes

The Toyota Tundra far outclasses Ford, GM, and Dodge. The quality and looks of this truck is what I was looking for when I bought it. From the moment they came out in 1999/2000 I knew that if I were to buy a truck then that would be it.

I always owned Hondas so it was with great... Read full review »

Pros Comfortable! Reliable! Fast enough! Best in class off-road.
Cons MPH not the greatest, but it is not a corolla either.

I waited for 5 years to review this truck. I have had this truck since it had 15,000 miles. My brother owned it before that. I needed a truck that could haul farm supplies and animal feeds. My D90 did not work well in the farm truck role without using a trailer. I now have 140,000 miles on this... Read full review »

Pros Smooth quiet ride, comfortable
Cons Re-occurring problem with Shift lever
Recommended it? Yes

Stylish, love the color - the dark green gets many compliments, it is nicely proportioned.

The problem we have is that the steering column mounted shift lever keeps breaking off of at the base. The dealer keeps telling us we are using excessive force to shift which is crazy. The truck... Read full review »

I've had the truck for about 3 years now. I only have about 32K on the truck but it hasn't had one issue to date.

I love my truck! I was a life long ford guy at 29 (my dad has only had ford trucks since 77' and my grandfather was a ford truck guy too). I'll never go back, and my dad has... Read full review »

Great Truck if Quality issues are addressed

Pros Handles great, excellent power vs MPG, Comfortable, great all around truck
Cons Quality issues. Undersized brakes, cant tow 5th wheel trailers
Recommended it? No

The 2000 Tundra is a great truck, First and second year trucks have some quality issues that have been quietly addressed by Toyota. The only way to get this issues resolved is by arguing with your local dealer service center. Toyota should bring the problems to light and just fix them. These issues... Read full review »

A Toyota-that pretty much sums it up.

byladman Jun 20, 2004

I really needed a 2nd car as my GS400 is currently kicking out 470hp and I place sometimes 200 miles a day on a vehicle. This plus the fact that every homeowner needs a truck for those Home Depot runs. It is sometimes difficult relying on a friend's truck and time.
I shopped around for a few... Read full review »

I originally bought my 2000 Tundra brand new. I definitely like the truck overall, but there are some things that I didnt like:

My family purchased a 2000 Toyota Tundra in November of 1999. For one of the first off the line there was very little wrong with it. Ours came very basic-2WD, bucket seats, premium wheels. I recently purchased a used Tundra. It was the SR5 version with the 4.7 V8. The truck was everything I had read about. From the first time I drove it I realized the reason there is a difference in the price compared to the domestic version of full size trucks.

The truck was the most... Read full review »

Jan 2004 - This is an update to the original review of my 2000 Toyota Tundra V8 SR5 Plus Cab. I was pretty frustrated when I reported the vibration troubles in my initial review. Well, since then, I've learned that about 98% of that problem was attributed to the tires. I did get the original tires... Read full review »

This is not a truck, it's a dream. I test drove a Tundra when I was looking at the Highlander a few months back (review to come). After emerging disappointed from that mini-suv, I told the salesman I wanted something large enough for four with good power, quiet ride and considerable space.
