My '97 Runner just turned over 170,000 miles!
Good body style with chrome bumpers that are more rugged than the newer ones. This is my 4th 4-Runner. (I lost a couple along the way to being totalled in accidents. And by the way I was well protected in those accidents. I could have been badly hurt in smaller vehicles)
This 1997 has been...

Wonderful vehicle . . .
I live in Saskatchewan, Canada and bought my 1997 Toyota 4runner limited edition in January 2007. I spent about a fair amount of money for it but it only had 92,000 kms and was in mint shape bought from the proverbial older couple. Initially I felt I spent too much for it but after driving it... Still Truckin
I bought my 1997 Toyota 4Runner Limited in Dec '06. It was either this or the '97 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer (which my friend bought). My friend's Explorer started breaking down in 2001. Right now, July 11, 2007, my 4Runner is 10yr old and has 208,100 miles on it. For years 1-4, it drove in lite... Read full review »
What a Beauty!
I remembered seeing this SUV back in 1997 at the Toyota dealer and said that one day I would own one. I fell in love with the Limited (white with silver skirts over the wheels). Well, I couldn't afford it back then but in 2002 I bought me a white Limited . I Flew out to Houston to pick it up. At... Read full review »

I bought my Toyota 4 runner SR5 4x4 5 years ago and would not change a thing. I love the truck it handles smooth on freeway, great off-road and the traction is superior to other vehicles i have driven. By far the best vehicle i have ever bought. Best Truck I've Ever Owned!!
I bought my truck about 2 years ago with 50k on the odo. It has been nothing short of a joy to own. I have only made minor modifications to it so far (upgraded stereo, grill guard, lights, etc.). The truck has plenty of pickup (no pun intended), but don't look for it to keep up with your Porsche. I... Read full review »
My 1997 4Runner SR5
Well......I got this 4Runner in July, 1997 and took it to Wisconsin 3 times, Phoenix 8 times, Vegas 4 times (I live in SoCal) and NEVER had one malfunction. I just sold it with 150,000 miles on it and it still runs excellent. Now I got a 2004 SR5 and I enjoy every minute of driving. Read full review »
What a great, reliable vehicle
We purchased a 1997 4-Runner used back in 2000. This was probably one of the best automotive purchases we have ever made. The maintenance costs have been minimal. Toyotas have a tendency to have the starter and alternator fail; we have replaced the starter and I am holding my breath on the... Read full review »
What a wonderful investment.
I bought my '97 4Runner in 1998. I had 11K miles on it and I paid $18K for it. It was such a good price because it was a base model, meaning very few frills (e.g.: no AC, 4 cylinder engine, power nothing except for the rear window). I must say though, this has been a very reliable vehicle.
The...

Trust it more than other new SUVs
I bought the 4Runner because I wanted to try something
bigger. My previous car was a Nissan 240SX - small and
had some problems (leaky fuel injector, weak a/c). I
opted for the 4 cylinder and 2WD base model because
I wanted to spend less than $25k.
Engine:
The 4...

Go 4-Running Wherever and Whenever
Let me just tell you about my 1997 Toyota 4-Runner. For a 19yr. old it is about the biggest dream that has ever come true. I have a limited 4wd model. It came with 55,00 miles on it and I've already, in four months put 25,00 miles on it. The great thing about it though, it still cranks just as good... Read full review »

The only car you need.
I unloaded my 92 Honda Accord Coupe to buy this dream car. I shopped for a new car for nearly nine months before buying my 97 SR5 4Runner 2WD in may 1997. My sales person was very pleasant to be around and did not pressure me into buying on any of my visits to the dealer.
Above all I...

Aggressive Looking. Reliable BattleMaster
I was researching SUVs for several months before I finally decided on buying my Toyota 4Runner SR5. Let me tell you that it was one of the best decisions I ever made. The 4Runner has everything you would want and demand out of an SUV.
I got all the bells and whistles that the SR5 had to...

Not impressed
I bought this vehicle as my first SUV. I wanted something that would be useful for hauling goods to and from Home Depot for our new home. We were also purchasing furniture and wanted something larger to help bring items home. I love the look of the vehicle and the interior is laid out very well... Read full review »
My Third 4 Runner
I am now driving my third 4 Runner by Toyota. It's a '97 model and I love it. It has a tan leather interior, CD player, and sunroof. The color is silver like called "Dune".
There are 4 wheel drive and 2 wheel drive models. The 4 wheel drive models are about $5,000.00 more than the 2 wheel...

A 4Runner For A Runner
My wife and I recently decided to get a SUV. We were just tired of trying to get our 2 year old in the rear child seat through our 2 door BMW. So we dumped the Beemer (it was a good car - read my review) and went shopping.
We looked at Dodge Durangos, Nissan Pathfinders, Nissan Xterras and...
