A great intro level DVD Value!
If you're looking for an Intro level DVD player, or perhaps even a DVD Player for your secondary TV, the Toshiba SD1700 would be a wise choice. I've had this DVD Player for over a year now, and have it's given me nothing but enjoyment. I'll describe my "out of the box experience".

Tiny but high quality player.
The SD-1700 is definitely the underdog of the DVD player arena. Make no mistake, it is a quality player, but this is the player you by for your Mom to watch DVD's with.

If your Lucky it won't Break.
I have 3 Toshiba TV's, two VCR's , so when it was time for a DVD bought one under $100 from UBid.
For the 1st 100 days it worked swell.
Albiet we used it less than once a week.
Picture quality Great, sound good, the options it offered kept my 11 year old entertained. (our 1st DVD)...

Get a Toshiba
A year and a half ago I paid 250.00 for a near top of the line Sony. My wife and I got quite a bit of use out of it, but it was always touchy - if there was any dust or imperfection on the DVD then the machine would just flash "C 1300" at us (No disc present). Played Two DVDs and then Kaput!!
I had good experience with Toshiba products in the past. However, after playing only two DVDs my SD1700 quit working.
I put it in the shop over three months ago and it is still not fixed. The repair shop said the problem is the power supply and also said that Toshiba has had trouble procuring...
