Funny and addicting
Story, radio, amount of content
Sometimes acting, graphics, shooting mechanics
The Bottom Line:
I would recommend this game to any hardcore gamer who isn't to sensitive to violence.
Unlike many people, I wasn't highly anticipating this game because I hadn't played the previous games, but this game was very fun and kind of disappointing.
The GTA IV story starts off as you, Niko Bellic, coming to America from Europe to live with your cousin. As the story unfolds, you will be introduced to a new world of modern gangsters and drug lords, while learning more about Niko. I thought the story was great and engaging, it kept me on my seat and was over 20 hours. I love a long game.
Unlike other games, GTA IV doesn't have a soundtrack, instead when you get into a vehicle, you can pick from about 10 different radio stations. I thought this was a cool and unique feature. There are so many lines of dialogue recorded just for the radio, whenever you turn it on, you'll hear a new news story or song. The voice acting was good for the most part but sometimes, the actors ruined the moment with cheesy acting. Another part of the game that needs help are the graphics, usually on main characters or in cutscenes they are great but outside of that they aren't very good. You are likely to see two people who are identical on the street at the same time. And sometimes textures look like crap, but don't let some dated graphics bother you too much.
The gameplay in this game makes the whole experience. The shooting and cover mechanics aren't all the great but everything else is a masterpiece. Being able to do what ever you want is great, if you want to you can steal any car of the street and get into the biggest police chase in history. The cops will continually send bigger and better cars and people after you. There is so much to do that I literally found myself discovering new things to do after I beat the game. Yes the game is very violent but not as bad as you might think. You can go to strip clubs, but all the girls have their clothes on. And if you really want to, you can avoid all that. There is no reason to miss out on all the great content in this game, unless you are sensitive to violence.
