Pros lots of options, clear display, works just like a computer
Cons too many menus, price
Recommended it? No

I recently had to borrow a friends TI-89 calculator for my calculus class because we were using our graphing calculators (required for the class) for calculating polar coordinates and such and my TI-83 decided to fry the night before. I loved the lay out of the 89 and before using it was definately... Read full review »

Does this thing do simple stuff also?

Pros A lot of features
Cons Difficult to get to what needs to be done
Recommended it? Yes

I used to own a TI-86 calculator, but forgot it at a hotel while on a business trip. I decided that if I'm going to buy another calculator, might as well upgrade. So I bought the TI-89. This calculator does all that the other calculator did, and more, but the only problem is its hard to use. I was... Read full review »

Pros It does my entire calculus course!
Cons If your prof lets you use this thing you won't learn a thing.
Recommended it? Yes

I had a TI-83 that I bought for graphing back in the days of Algebra 2. For calculus however, I was told to buy a TI-89. Man, this thing is amazing. It takes a few days just to get through its nasty Windoze style menus, but once you do the abilities of this thing are endless.

The TI-89... Read full review »

Cons expensive

This is an excellent thing to get if you can afford it (or if you win it at Mathcounts like I did). It is so much better that other graphing calculators by Texas Instruments. It no longer has the feel of a personal organizer, more like that of a computer. There are so many useful functions, like... Read full review »

Pros It does everything except program the VCR, usable on SAT and AP exams.
Cons It is not allowed on the ACT.
Recommended it? Yes

For several years, I had been using the Texas Instruments TI86 for math and entertainment. I thought it was a good calculator, but even that does not match the capabilities of the TI-89.

The machine
I was issued a TI-89 calculator for my AP Calculus BC class, along with an... Read full review »

How Much Is It?

Pros Can get you through math class
Cons Too many functions. Too expensive.
Recommended it? No

This is a very expensive calculator. You might as well save all your money to buy a computer. It's one step away from being one with all the functions that it has. There are probably thousands of different things that the calculator can do, but you will never use more than 30 of them. And you... Read full review »

Pros Does symbolic calculations, advanced calculus, 3D graphing, intuitive equation display.
Cons Can be difficult to figure out at first.
Recommended it? Yes

As my profile says, I'm a Senior Electrical engineering student, ans believe me, this calculator is worth every single cent!

While it can run games and is fully programmable, it's really the integrated math and calculus functions that make it great. Most people will never use or need the... Read full review »

Pros Huge memory, lots of options
Cons a little confusing until you actually find someone who knows it
Recommended it? Yes

If you're out on the market for a calculator, buy a Ti-89. There are so many reasons to buy them, but I will list just a few. First of all is the fact that 89's have more memory than a 20 year old computer. This is so obviously cool because of all the sweet games you can put on it. For instance, I... Read full review »

Pros Many functions (pretty much the same as the TI-92), 3D graphs, "Pretty Print"
Cons Expensive

Hi, my name is Kelly. You may remember me from such reviews as "Bad Deal For Students," reviewing the TI-92. I'm here today to inform you of a discovery that has made my life just about perfect. After buying the TI-89, my grades improved, I met my lifelong love, and my broken arm healed. Actually,... Read full review »

Pros Very versatile!
Cons Tricky for beginners.
Recommended it? Yes

TI did it again with its ti-89. It comes at a hefty list price of about 150 dollars, but I bought it on ebay for only $80. The calculator is very complicated, but not too hard if you take the time to look at the manual and to learn how to do a new thing.

If you're going to fork over the... Read full review »
