Pros USB port, more memory, flash apps, faster processor
Cons Cover slips on in reverse direction then used by all other TI calcs.
Recommended it? Yes

I have purchased many Texas Instruments Graphing Calculators over the course of my school career and I have to say that the TI-89 Titanium is by far the best yet. TI appears to have combined the best of all the other calculators into one unit, expanded its memory capacity, given it a faster... Read full review »

Pros The endless capabilities
Cons Takes a while to learn to use; High Price
Recommended it? Yes

Calculators, in their numerous varieties, have been helping students solve mathematical problems for decades. Once a time- consuming process, math questions, both difficult and easy, can now be resolved in a matter of seconds, all with the push of a few buttons.

*Note: This review pertains to the TI-89 Titanium, which is newer than the regular TI89.*

What a calculator! In middle school math, I had a scientific calculator. Back then, scientific calculators seemed like the most advanced calculators out there. And then along came high school. It is... Read full review »

TI-89 Titanium- arrrgh!!!!

Pros Rampant, motley and sometimes muddled power
Cons NOT really a calculator but a computer with calculator applications, and it shows!
Recommended it? No

Having been an electronics engineer for 20 years, I use calculators quite a bit. I decided it was time to replace my dozen year-old HP 28S with the biggest, baddest TI available. Now, I'm thinking that was a mistake. The features on this calculator are very poorly integrated. TI seems to have taken... Read full review »

Pros CAS, 68K processor, durability, third-party software
Cons graphical user interface, some math teachers are scared of it
Recommended it? Yes

I've had my TI-89 for almost 4 years now and it still runs as well as the day I bought it. It's been dropped, banged around, had water spilled on it, and I'm still running it. It's most possibly the best graphing calculator Texas Instruments (TI) makes. There are some other models that TI makes... Read full review »

I'm a third year electrical engineering student and have used a TI-86 until three weeks ago. Now the TI-86 is a fine unit...But the TI-89 is absolutely an AWESOME piece of equipment! I had seen the TI-89 here and there but until I had my own TI-89, I had no idea of the capability of this... Read full review »

Pros So good it should be illegal.
Cons Overkill for all but Math/Sci/Eng/etc. majors.

Recently I started my final semester of calculus. This device is my sole ally when facing things like R3-functions and partial derivatives. It takes much of the heat off of me and I rely on it heavily. Truthfully, it is hard to learn to use. I've had mine through Trig, College Alg, Calc-1, Calc-2,... Read full review »

Pros Does nearly everything, 3D graphing is amazing
Cons Not allowed on SAT or ACT
Recommended it? Yes

I originally bought the TI-89 because I was going into engineering and it looked like the best deal at the store. Three years and two majors down the road, I am so thankful that I made this choice. The calculator is easily worth a letter grade in Calc I, II, and III. Not to mention every other math... Read full review »

TI-89 Graphing Calculator: "Summed" Up

Pros Great
Cons Not many

This calculator is a fairly useful product. I used it in my math courses in the past few years. It is not very hard to find the correct basic functions and master the keys, but you can also get into some fairly advanced things on this calculator. There are different "modes" available which allow... Read full review »

Texas Instruments TI-89: Is This God?

Pros Features, Interface, Programs
Cons Difficult To Use
Recommended it? Yes

The Texas Instruments TI-89 is the most expensive and advanced calculator in the TI-8X series. It's much more money than either the TI-83+ or TI-86. However, the difference in price is worth it when you see the capabilities that the Texas Instruments TI-89 has. I bought one to use in college after... Read full review »
