Can you say over kill?
Let me just start off saying that this is one damn powerful calculator. It has basically every math function you can possibly think of. You can solve huge equations with this without even thinking! Definitely worth the (hefty) price
I bought this product for one simple reason: To pass BC calculus.
It's not that I was a bad math student - in fact, I was a very talented math student. But I was also lazy, and the HOURS that this calculator has saved me are invaluable.

Powerful, Useful, Pretty buttons.
I have had my TI 89 now for almost two years, and I love it to death. I think it would be best for my to start out naming my favorite features. The TI89 is almost definitely the best calculator available today. It contains all the advantages of the TI 92 but in a hand held form. Fake your way through math class!
The main problem with having a calculator like this one is that you may think you don't need to actually learn the math you are doing. This is a mistake, one that helped me fail second semester trig. In reality, the TI-89 is really more like a Palm Pilot than it is a calculator, given some of the features it has. For example, the TI-89 promises not to become obsolete quickly, due to its upgradability. Even without this feature, however, I doubt the TI-89 would become useless for some time --... What's the point of being powerful...
...if you don't know how to wield that power? This is the major problem with the TI89. You're just absolutely sure it can do anything you want with it, but you have no idea how. And if you don't know how, then what's the use?
