Pros very powerful
Cons expensive, hard to learn
Recommended it? No

Let me just start off saying that this is one damn powerful calculator. It has basically every math function you can possibly think of. You can solve huge equations with this without even thinking! In fact in my school it has been banned in some classes because it does so much and people cheated on... Read full review »

The main problem with having a calculator like this one is that you may think you don't need to actually learn the math you are doing. This is a mistake, one that helped me fail second semester trig. Actually my total laziness is really to blame, but you must make sure to actually learn how to do... Read full review »

Pros Has many wonderful features
Cons You just wish you knew which button to press to access those features
Recommended it? No

...if you don't know how to wield that power? This is the major problem with the TI89. You're just absolutely sure it can do anything you want with it, but you have no idea how. And if you don't know how, then what's the use?

My college algebra last year required that we all buy the TI89... Read full review »

Pros Does just about any kind of math problem you can think of.
Cons a little expensive, the more complicated features take time to learn
Recommended it? Yes

Let me start by saying that the TI-89 is not for everyone. Unless you are going to be going into an engineering program in college or a math or physics related major you probably don't need this calculator, there are many other models which will suit your purpose. I recommend this calculator for... Read full review »

Pros Great machine that can do wonders with math.
Cons A little pricey, and a few bugs yet.
Recommended it? Yes

The TI-89 has many wondrous qualities. It will graph equations for you. It will solve equations for you. It will differentiate and integrate for you. It will also add, subtract, multiply, divide, and take the square for you. Plus, it has many other little treats that I could not hope to possibly... Read full review »

As a sophomore, my high school splurged and purchased TI-92 graphing calculators for the lot of us. While coming from a TI-83 background made it difficult to use the new interface, I was amazed at the power. Solving algebraic equations, factoring, computing derivatives, and integrals had never been... Read full review »

Pros Incredible functionality, great expansion capability with apps/programs
Cons Very steep learning curve
Recommended it? Yes

I got this calculator midway through high school to replace a TI-84 Plus. When I first got the calculator, the very steep learning curve immediately became apparent. For those who are used to the style of the TI-83/84, using the TI-89 will be very difficult in the beginning. When you first turn on... Read full review »

I upgraded from my TI-83 to my 89 as a Sophomore in High School. I now keep it with me at work, and have used it in many different academic and professional situations. IT is an incredibly powerful tool, and I'll try to tell you why I'm so happy with it.

Pros Powerful math capabilities, lots of storage space
Cons Tricky to use, a little unintuitive

For three years of high school math (precalculus, calculus, and linear algebra), I happily used my school-issued TI-83 plus. It was perfect for precalculus, and it was useful for calculus, too, but by senior year I was taking multivariable calculus, and I decided I was tired of pounding out... Read full review »

Cons graphical user interface, some math teachers are scared of it

I've had my TI-89 for almost 4 years now and it still runs as well as the day I bought it. It's been dropped, banged around, had water spilled on it, and I'm still running it. It's most possibly the best graphing calculator Texas Instruments (TI) makes. There are some other models that TI makes... Read full review »
