Pros Convenient. Fairly reliable. Good price with unlimited data.
Cons Useless PDA functionality. Can 't synch to laptop. Phone functionality awkward.
Recommended it? Yes

I waited months for the release of the T-Mobile sidekick. It was released on October 1st, and I was the first one to buy one at my local T-Mobile store. I find it to be a handy gadget for someone who travels and needs to check email, surf the web, and even chat with buddies via AOL Instant... Read full review »

Pros Fast, always on email, AOL IM, Lives up to the hype
Cons Don't like the swivel screen, some web sites not accessible via browser
Recommended it? Yes

I've had my Sidekick for about 3 months and love it. Originally I thought it would serve only as a backup to my RIM Blackberry email pager. Surprisingly it exceeds the functionality of Blackberry in several areas. Here are my summarized pros and cons:

PROS OF SIDEKICK:

Pros Always-on Internet, nice keyboard, cool factor, user friendly
Cons Very poor network quality, swivel screen easy to break, small screen, poor phone...

Update: Read my comment to this original review to see why I really don't like T-Mobile any more.

*****

The Internet has brought us such a wealth of information, and the danger of it is information overload. Alas, the Danger Hiptop, now branded as the T-Mobile Sidekick,... Read full review »

Pros Small, easy
Cons doesn't work well with overlays
Recommended it? Yes

Every so often, I think to myself that I need a cell phone. When my grandmother won a sidekick in a contest, she gave it to me figuring I'd have more patience that she would for it, mostly because so much comes with it. Aside from a cell phone, you get a Web browser, an e-mail account, AOL Instant... Read full review »

This is the future's fist draft. Sidekick represents, what the future will be for mobile communication. I think it will drag people kicking and screaming in the 21st Century. People want instant access to info, email and the ability to communicate a variety of ways around the world. Sidekick does... Read full review »

Fast device with good interface for personal communication

bydbakercow Nov 25, 2002

Pros Fast, good interface, great web browser, keyboard, price
Cons Undeveloped software, grayscale display, goofy looking, battery life
Recommended it? Yes

Having carried a RIM 950 for several years, I'm used to mobile wireless data in a little device. The keyboard is vastly superior to most PDAs and 2-way pagers, but not as comfortable as the RIM patented keyboard design. With thumbs, I can do about 20-30wpm.

The Sidekick is almost the next... Read full review »

Pros great web browser, PDA-like features, fast e-mail
Cons battery life
Recommended it? Yes

This is a great device that builds on the successful form factor of Research In Motion's RIM950 and original Blackberry models. In addition to providing the always-on wireless email connectivity, it provides a great micro web browser and an AIM client that far exceeds the usability of the... Read full review »

Pros unlimited web browsing; good cell phone, good PIM functions, fun camera,
Cons No speakerphone, no bluetooth

This is a cell phone (with SMS functionality), internet browser (with well-formatted pages), PIM (calendar and address book), email client, AOL instant messenger client, all with full-keyboard.

Sometimes (very rarely) a tech product really is better than it is reasonable to expect it... Read full review »

Pros Easy to use out of the box. Great multifunction integeration
Cons Coverage poor even in areas otherwise receiving high signals. even in sight of antenae

I loved my Sidekick from the moment I began tot find my away around its features and realize the extend to which the wireless data access could be useful and fast. However, I quickly learned that the coverage and signal strength I received on the device was spotty to say the least. Where I work I... Read full review »

Sidekick (Hiptop): Lack of Outlook Syncing is its downfall

byalexisrn Nov 2, 2002
16 Helpfuls 17 Helpfuls Was this review helpful? 1 Comment
Pros Price of hardware and service; User Friendly design; Unlimited Data Usage; FAST Internet...
Cons No Outlook Syncing; Unlimited data guaranteed for only one year
Recommended it? No

I am writing this review for people who are already familiar with the T-Mobile Sidekick (or Danger Hiptop), and are more interested in how well the device works, as opposed to what it does.

The T-Mobile Sidekick has failed to deliver on any of its promises; most importantly, Outlook... Read full review »
