Pros Excellent Graphics, Easy to Play
Cons Gets a little boring at times during Cinematics
Recommended it? Yes

I actually rented this game because of the huge sword I saw the guy carrying thinking it would be somewhat like the Final Fantasy series ... I didn't expect much from the game, I figured it would just be about killing and boy was I right ...

In the games defense, the storyline isn't bad... Read full review »

Pros Storyline, uncensored violence, fun factor
Cons No thinking skill necessary at all, very short game
Recommended it? Yes

Woah! Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage is one fun game! Three words to describe it are killing, bloody, and fun. That may sound a wee bit sadistic, but trust me, playing this game will result in time well spent.

When I first heard of this game, I was very interested in it. Rarely now days... Read full review »

Pros great graphics, control, voice acting, story especially
Cons cinematics too lengthy
Recommended it? Yes

Back in the 8-bit and 16-bit era, there was a genre that flourished called the hack-n-slash game. It wa similar to beat-em-ups like Streets Of Rage and Double Dragon except you had a weapon in your hands used to kill the bad guys with. It was usually set in a medieval setting and featured hordes of... Read full review »

Pros Cinemas, Gatts, Bazooka fist, Zodd
Cons Eidos' voice actors, Japanese subtitles
Recommended it? Yes

Dear lord, what can I say about this game? I honestly love the *GAME* to death. I remember playing this for the first time 2 days after it had come out in Japan. A bunch of avid Berserk fans sitting over a slowly warming Dreamcast, watching the festival of blood and mandragon flesh being torn... Read full review »

If you want a hack and slash masterpiece, this is your game. You want buckets of blood? This is your game. With easy gameplay and a cool story, sit back and enjoy the show.
Of course the first thing you notice is the graphics. The Dreamcast doesn't disappoint with a beautifully created... Read full review »

Pros Gorgeous Game
Cons Very strange
Recommended it? No

This game is gorgeous. It is also very annoying. Let me explain...

Eye-popping graphics abound, with imaginative creatures and environments everywhere you look. The story is pretty incredible, and well acted. When you first put this disk in, you'll be sucked in by the rugged fairy tale... Read full review »

Pros Excellent Graphic and Story Lines
Cons Poor Controllable
Recommended it? Yes

Sword of the Berserk are a really good game, the storyline and movies are excellent.

The graphics are amazing, the voices are really well chosen and the musical score is ambient. The play control of the game are two thumbs down! It is mindless to control a character and hardly do a... Read full review »

Pros Great gameplay and graphics.... did i mention all the blood
Cons B-movie voice acting
Recommended it? Yes

Do me a favor... rewind back to the 80s and early 90s. Remember a little game called streets of rage? Or howbout BattleToads (my personal favorite)? These games have almost become extinct in the past five years (with the exception of zombie revenge and dynamite cop)... games where you sole goal is... Read full review »

Pros Great game play and a well executed story.
Cons Doesn't really require thinking, if you are into that.
Recommended it? Yes

Ever wonder why the fighting genre in video games is ruled by the Japanese? If you ask me, its because they know how to stage a theoretical fight. Take Soul Calibur for example -- the way they have filmed the individual fighters doing their kata looks more or less like a 3D cartoon version of an... Read full review »

Pros Blood & Guts, The Story.
Cons A little short in gameplay
Recommended it? Yes

This game is violent. No bones about it, the game was meant to glorify the violence factor. Parents should use caution in buying this game for their children.

This game is a throwback to such classic games like "Golden Axe", "Double Dragon" or "Altered Beast". Readers to young or not... Read full review »

Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage

Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage is an action game with phenomenally good graphics but overly simplistic gameplay. You fill the shoes of the main character, Guts, and spend most of your time smiting foes with his seven-foot monster of a sword, Dragon Slayer. Some levels provide the best hack-and-slash gaming to be found anywhere, but usually Sword of the Berserk is more cheap than challenging. We certainly felt rage when boulders began falling on Guts's head at random during one level and the designers took great pains to populate most of the levels with dozens of tiny ankle-biting enemies that are nigh impossible to hit. Unfortunately the lack of combat moves, weapon upgrades, or anything else that could have spiced up gameplay makes Sword of the Berserk far more tedious than it should be for gamers. What really distinguishes this game from other gore games is the eloquent integration of storyline- enhancing cut-scenes that are gorgeously rendered with the game engine. There is over an hour of noninteractive story line to sit through--so many scenes that this almost qualifies as an interactive movie. If mindless combat and a compelling story sound appealing, Sword of the Berserk is what you've been waiting for. Parents should note that this game is particularly violent, and may not be suited for young children. --T. Byrl Baker Pros: Beautiful graphics Gory, visceral combat Outstanding production values Cons: Repetitive gameplay Level design sometimes cheap
