Decent game, but too short
Lately in the past couple of months Eidos Interactive has begun to phase numerous pieces of Dreamcast software into their already packed line up. While all of the game so far have been ports of previously released titles, their latest is actually a US translation of a violence and gore-filled... Read full review »
Hack and Slash everything in sight--Sword of the Berserk
"What's this?" I thought when IGN.com first ran it's preview on an unknown, under-hyped Dreamcast game known as Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage. "Goriest game ever" I read in the preview. "May be worth checking out" I thought. So, last April when it was finally released in stores, I bought it at... Read full review »
You'd be Berserk to buy this!
When I first heard and read of this game it seemed to have promise. Back in those days when most Dreamcast games were just distant specs on the horizon it seemed that they all would be great and ground breaking. It seemed they simply couldn't go wrong. When you read about them in the magazines and... Read full review »
Hack 'n Slash in it's purest Form
Remember the old days of video games where you didn't have to think? You could just roam around with non-stop action. The same can be said of Sword of the Berserk: Gut's Rage except on a more grand scale.
You play Gattsu, one of the two survivors of a clan of mercenaries that were...

Gamers berserk and rage
"Sword of the Berserk" is a typical B game with its ups and downs. From the cover, pictures and descriptions on its case it looks to be an interesting game. Though looks can be decieving. The graphics are solid as expected for most dreamcast games. With nice lighting in some cases and the... Read full review »

S.O.B. Loyal Artistic Masterpiece
Sword of the Berserk is the first visually stunning true to its roots anime game to be released in a VERY LONG TIME. Granted, the game play is nothing out of the ordinary, but the games value is much deeper than that. To truly enjoy SOB, you have to understand who the characters are and where they... A movie or a game
This is a strange game if you ask me. There should be no doubt in your mind when you load it up of what the game is going to be like. A big guy, with an even bigger sword who at times goes berserk. There, you know what the game is like - A LOT of chopping. That's not to say it's bad. Our hero, Guts... Read full review »

Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage
Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage is an action game with phenomenally good graphics but overly simplistic gameplay. You fill the shoes of the main character, Guts, and spend most of your time smiting foes with his seven-foot monster of a sword, Dragon Slayer. Some levels provide the best hack-and-slash gaming to be found anywhere, but usually Sword of the Berserk is more cheap than challenging. We certainly felt rage when boulders began falling on Guts's head at random during one level and the designers took great pains to populate most of the levels with dozens of tiny ankle-biting enemies that are nigh impossible to hit. Unfortunately the lack of combat moves, weapon upgrades, or anything else that could have spiced up gameplay makes Sword of the Berserk far more tedious than it should be for gamers. What really distinguishes this game from other gore games is the eloquent integration of storyline- enhancing cut-scenes that are gorgeously rendered with the game engine. There is over an hour of noninteractive story line to sit through--so many scenes that this almost qualifies as an interactive movie. If mindless combat and a compelling story sound appealing, Sword of the Berserk is what you've been waiting for. Parents should note that this game is particularly violent, and may not be suited for young children. --T. Byrl Baker Pros: Beautiful graphics Gory, visceral combat Outstanding production values Cons: Repetitive gameplay Level design sometimes cheap
