Sweet Home Alabama - Not Everything It Could Be, But Still Decent
Preamble
Girls, I heartily apologize. I meant to post this Friday evening after viewing the movie but I was just too tired.
For Those Who Want To Know - But Not KNOW

I've Lost Respect Even For A Certain Band. Witherspoon In 'Sweet Home Alabama'
After inching his way up from a dreadful career to the somewhat evocative 'Ever After', Andy Tennant should have left well enough alone. Bringing us such fine directing efforts as 'Ferris Bueller' (that's the television show, not the movie), 'The Amy Fisher Story', 'Sliders', and the...

Sweet Home Alabama Falls Flat On The Screen
Cute movies usually aren't my cup of tea. There are the occasional "chick" flicks that I enjoy. Say Anything is a winner and so is Singles. Jerry Maguire is also an entertaining film. Sweet Home Alabama DVD
Reese Witherspoon stars in SWEET HOME ALABAMA a charming romantic comedy directed by Andy Tennant. Witherspoon is Melanie Carmichael a Southern girl who leaves her past behind in order to find success as a fashion designer in New York City. On the night of a hugely important show her charming and romantic boyfriend Andrew Patrick Dempsey proposes to her. It is at that point that Melanie flees for Alabama hoping to take care of some unfinished business before Andrew and his mother New York mayor Kate Hennings Candice Bergan discover the truth about her. The truth is that Melanie whose real last name is Smooter is still married to her childhood sweetheart Jake Josh Lucas who refuses to grant her a divorce. As Melanie reunites with her parents and old friends she is forced to reevaluate her new-and-improved self. In the process she rediscovers a love that she thought she had lost. Tennant's film is elevated by Witherspoon's mere presence. Her rare blend of intelligence wit and beauty are a wonder to behold. Adding to the charm are Lucas and Dempsey who portray characters who are hard to root against.

This delightfully entertaining romantic comedy stars Reese Witherspoon (LEGALLY BLONDE) as sophisticated Melanie Carmichael, a rising New York clothing designer who suddenly finds herself engaged to the city's most eligible bachelor. But this is no fairy tale romance for Melanie. She has skeletons in her fashion-filled closet that include Jake -- the backwoods husband she married in high school who refuses to divorce her. Determined to end their marriage and sever all ties with her past once and for all, Melanie returns to Alabama. But home starts to tug at her heartstrings, and what she thought she wanted may not be what she wants at all.
