Keeping cool without breaking the bank.
I just purchased the Royal Sovereign Portable Air Conditioner ARP-1000ES
I have it placed in a central location of a 500 square foot studio. The unit is 10 000 BTU which would be more ideally suited to about 400 square feet, so bear that in mind as you read this review.
My home...

Sears Royal Sovereign ARP-1000ES (Sears #04274902000)
I have a non air-conditioned house in the mountains of North Carolina. I have never needed A/C before this summer. With the extended drought and record-breaking temps, I could not take sleeping in my upstairs bedroom any longer.
I ordered this unit online and picked it up at a local...

Huffs and Puffs, But Does the Job
Got this at Sears. At 70-odd lbs, was surprised to see it rolls around rather well.
Cooling is, as always, dependent on the conditions of the room. In a south-facing 14X14 room with a casement glass floor-to ceiling sliding door, it's a challenge even with the blinds closed.

The room we put it in's door is in between the other 2 bedrooms on the opposite side of the hallway. Even with a fan in that room blowing cold air out... Read full review »
It's hot in here
I must say that I am very disappointed with my unit. The hose that vents the hot air is so hot that it alone can heat the room. Also when the room is hot (which is when you would want to use an air conditioner) it will only run cold air for approximately 5 to 6 minutes or so before the condenser... Read full review »
Only worked 2 summers....
We bought this unit in 07/06. We used it for 3 months in 06, 3 months in 07, and 1 day in 08, then it malfunctioned and never worked again. Each year we finished with this unit, we would put it away in the garage. In the less than the 2 years we owned it, it was used maybe 60 days total, at approx... Read full review »
Made In China
I can remember those days when one bought an appliance, and had to give it away to get ride of it 20 years later. Remember? When things use to be manufactured here in USA instead of China?
I bought a 10000 BTU Royal Sovereign AC (Of course "Made in China") and four months into using it during...
