Pros Very Good Sound Quality
Cons Be sure you turn your mic on and then off when you put it away.
Recommended it? Yes

I own this SONY mic. I also own several other external camcorder mics. I recorded a test with each of the mics with my camcorder - a person talking about five feet in front of the camcorder and mic. Pros Good sound quality, ease of use, battery lasts forever
Cons Odd shape to the microphone, miniplug connector is a mixed blessing depending your use

I primarily use this microphone for recording my own practice sessions and band concerts. I've used it to record directly to my MD player, and I've run it through mixers to recording devices as well. Pros Better sound, better stereo than built in mike.
Cons Poor method of telling whether mike is on. Is it worth the $'s?

I'm not a pro, so these are my subjective feelings.
More pure sound with less distortion.
Better stereo separation than built in mike.
Used on new Hitachi DVD recording school orchestras.
