Sony RMO S561 (RMO-S561) External Magneto-Optical Disk Drive

Sony announces its latest generation of the magneto optical (MO) drive which will be using the innovative technology to enhance the new drive's performance by nearly double the capacity to 9.1GB and its transfer rate performance by up to 20 percent. The increased capacity was achieved by using magnetically-induced super resolution (MSR) technology. MSR allows optical drives to read recorded marks on the disk that are smaller than the laser beam spot size, while reducing the potential for "cross-talk" from adjacent tracks. This technique allows for a significant increase in track density, while maintaining data integrity. This generation of MO technology also incorporates Land and Groove Recording, a technology that permits data to be recorded on the surface space of both the recording layer (Land) and the deeper spiral track (Groove).
