The ultimate digital audio/video recording device, Sony's versatile RDR-HX900 lets you record to a choice of formats (DVD-R/-RW, DVD+R/+RW) and even stores audio/video programming--everything from television shows to camcorder footage--on its internal 160 GB hard drive. Now you can record your TV programs to the hard drive using an advanced onscreen program guide and archive your favorite shows or movies to long-lasting DVD, dubbing at up to 24x normal speed (depending on your recordable media and your recording mode). There's even an IR blaster for satellite and cable-box control.

Pros Huge 160 GB hard drive, easy to use the TV Guide, compatible with other players
Cons cannot watch a different program while recording

I've owned this DVD recorder for over 3 years now and I absolutely love it! The TV Guide works fine for me and I have digital cable. It is not hooked up to the cable box, though, just from the wall. Pros Easy to use, very good pictures, improves quality of VHS transfered to DVD.
Cons Impossible to : saveguard purchased DVDs / split 1 recording towards 2DVDs / unlock zones
Recommended it? Yes

Only 24 hours after I purchased what for me was a real discovery (I knew almost nothing about digital video recorders), I'm very satisfied with this product that I'm already using as if it had been here for many weeks.

Pros Uses most blank disks. Does high speed dubbing. Neat looking.
Cons Worthless TV Guide feature. Noisy when off.
Recommended it? No

In many respects this is a great device. It makes very good DVDs using almost all kinds of blanks. Using it is not nearly as tedious as using a computer. However there are two serious drawbacks which have prompted me to ask the seller to accept its return.
