The most poorly designed Sony MD

bymapagr Nov 21, 2005
1 Helpfuls 2 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros lightweight, battery life, removable media, low storage costs (i.e. cheap discs) AM/FM...
Cons design, durability, cost, SonicStage, SonicStage, SonicStage, SonicStage
Recommended it? No

This is one of the most poorly designed pieces of technology around. A four-year old could have designed a more logical system of using this device. I am a huge fan of the Minidisc technology, and I own a standalone and two portable MDs. Therefore, this unit disappointed me greatly, and I believe... Read full review »

Net MD Walkman MZ-NF610, Simple personal Media Device

bycrashingatmtu Feb 22, 2005

Pros Disk capacity, Battery life, Remote control
Cons moments of freezing up, headphones, Software.
Recommended it? Yes

I've owned the MZ-NF610 Minidisk for almost a year and a half now. Before buying this particular device I looked into some other portable music players (i.e. the Apple ipod) for a solution to my musical needs. I chose this Walkman over the ipod because of the storage capacity of the disks and the... Read full review »

A great choice, with only minor weaknesses.

Pros Great sound, great volume, great battery life.
Cons Display not backlit and only one line of text.
Recommended it? Yes

I agree with virtually everything the other reviewers have written.

Sony's proprietary ATRAC3 compression algorithm DOES sound better than MP3, no question about that. Fortunately, you probably won't care which compression method your player uses, so the fact that it is proprietary is... Read full review »

Good idea, poorly executed.

Pros Works great in playing music from minidiscs.
Cons Trying to get music onto the minidisc.
Recommended it? No

I've had this MD for awhile and I've found it more and more useless and more of a hassle than it's worth.

Description:
The Net MD Walkman copies music onto a minidisc, can fit about 4 albums on 1 minidisc at lowest quality setting. The walkman works like a CD player so that you can... Read full review »

My Little Blue Buddy

byuk-airraid Aug 12, 2004

Pros Small, 5 hours of recording on one disc, FA/AM/TV/Weather remote! Nice attractive design!
Cons Too much cord on remote. Not enough cord on headphones.
Recommended it? Yes

I find it quite odd, that one of the greatest inventions in the 20th century has still not quite taken off! The minidisc. Remember when the CD first came out? It was the greatest, the sound quality was incredible, no more broken or mangled cassette tapes. Needless to say, we are strong into the CD... Read full review »

The best middle range NetMD Walkman.

bycarlos_manuel Jul 27, 2004
8 Helpfuls 9 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Cost vs. Benefit
Cons Sony new HiMD players
Recommended it? Yes

I needed a replacement for my Sony MP3 CD player, the size was the problem with it. I like to go to everywhere with music on my ears and the CD player is kinda bulky for that purpose (that makes me wonder why I bought it in the first place). I started to look for the device with alike features, so... Read full review »

A great buy!

2 Helpfuls 3 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros battery life, sound quality, price, and durability
Cons it doesn't come with a belt clip, and the head phones aren't the best quality.
Recommended it? Yes

this mini disc player is the best value because it comes with software for downloads and transfers, has a am/fm radio, and has a very long battery life, the sound quality is amazing, and for most bands can hold all of their cd's on one mini disc! how one down side is that it does not come with a... Preamble
I don't know how it came up, but back in October, my buddy Mike and I were filling Garrett in on the Sony Personal MiniDisc Player. As we sat there, explaining what it is, how it works, it suddenly occurred to me to post a review about it.

So, here ya go :)

Excellent portable audio player despite restrictions

Pros inexpensive media; portable; comes with remote; excellent sound, long battery life;...
Cons software imposes restrictions, uploading is difficult, no optical cable, a bit pricey
Recommended it? Yes

The MZ-NF610 is an excellent alternative to portable MP3 players because it's small, very stable, has superior sound quality, and it uses high quality minidisc media. Furthermore, the MZ-NF610 is one of Sony's newer portable MD players equipped with MDLP technology that allows for up to 5 hours of... Read full review »

Finally, this is the moment you've all been waiting for. I have settled down to write a review on my new MiniDisc Player, the audio device that I chose to be the heir to my CD player. I ordered the player from www.xocute.com (my review of their site can be found if you click on the link).

Sony's NF-610 Minidisc Recorder - "Prosumer"?

Pros Good value, decent design, feature-rich, nice remote
Cons Somewhat slow, rechargable battery has short life, HORRIBLE SOFTWARE
Recommended it? Yes

I was introduced to the world of Minidiscs by a friend at my high school (both now graduated, :-D) and when he sold me his old player (MZ-R700), I immediately fell in love with the format. The highly flexible track system, the crisp sound quality, and the higher capacity smaller discs made it a... Read full review »

Better than MP3 players

bycrystalattice May 20, 2003

Pros Cheap media, nearly infinite reuse, copies CDs and MP3s, protected discs
Cons Annoying software, frustrating antennae, no music uploading
Recommended it? Yes

First, I'd like to give a little background about minidiscs for those who haven't seen them.

I've been interested in minidisc players and recorders since I read a preview in Discover magazine back in the late '80s. The first time I actually saw one in use was in the movie "The Last Action... Read full review »
