Pros great sound system and imaging
Cons  Projection TV LAMP XL-200U is hell expenisve, over $200 per lamp.
Recommended it? No

Lamp XL-200u is hell expensive.  I don't think the Sony Company Care about their Customer.  I can not imagin to spend over $200 every other year Read full review »

I bought my KDF 50WE655 in February of 06 from COMPUSA, now out of business. I just got off the phone with a level 4 customer relations manager who offered $400 toward the cost of repair, or the "buy one more" option for just $1350 plus tax. They would not consider a replacement TV from the... Read full review »

Pros Nice TV, good picture, nice sound!
Recommended it? No

I just bought the TV less than two years ago and the other day the TV would not come on and the lamp light was blinking! So I called Sony thinking it was a minor problem, thinking everything is still under warranty! "The lamp is good for so ....many hours.. blah blah.." So HOW MUCH FOR THE NEW... Read full review »

"Free" KDF50WE655

Pros Despite the naysayers, very good picture quality. Light weight (85 lbs.).
Cons The "pink blotches".
Recommended it? Yes

I had the 40" XBR. Twice! The first one had an audio problem and was replaced without any hassle. The second one had the now legendary discoloration problem. It took months to get any satisfaction from Sony. First an "authorized" tech came out and put little magnets inside on the tube and the... Read full review »

Good HD, but not so great regular TV and DVD.

Pros Very good HD picture. Surprisingly good sound. Built-in HD decoder is plus.
Cons Some standard cable shows look terrible. DVD picture is just average looking.
Recommended it? No

This TV was a bit of a compromise for me. I did a great deal of research on HDTV's and this is not the best rated microdisplay projection TV out there. I bought it because the price was right, it had a 50 inch screen, it had a built-in HD decoder, and there were enough video connections for all my... Read full review »

Great TV for the price

Pros Vibrant colors, great sound, great value
Cons Blacks are only a deep gray. Silver color of case.
Recommended it? Yes

I just received this 50" LCD projection TV...the picture and sound (when displaying HD signals) are GREAT. The only downside is the lack of deep blacks (only a minor issue) and the long start-up time for the bulb to brighten.

While I like the built-in HD tuner, since I use on-demand... Read full review »

Can't get enough of it

Pros Vibrant colors, powerful DTV tuner built in, great audio quality.
Cons Have to swap input sources when using PIP sometimes
Recommended it? Yes

I don't know what it is about Sony and vibrant colors, whether it be with their digital cameras, video cameras, or televisions, but this HDTV 50" model lives up to the same standard. It's simply the most vibrant colors you'll ever see with a projection TV. And if you have a sony digital camera with... Read full review »

One of the best tv's out there (period)

Pros Picture, Sound, Memory Stick, Standard HDTV.
Cons It takes about 10 seconds for the bulb to turn on.
Recommended it? Yes

The picture on this TV is unbelievable. Since it comes with an ATSC tuner, it uses that to decode the TV signals. An ATSC tuner is way better then any regular NTSC tuner. I don't need a separate set top box to watch The Simpsons on HDTV because it's built in.

I love the Memory Stick... Read full review »

Sony 50" HD Rear Proj. LCD TV

Pros Outstanding picture with good HD input, very good with DVD.
Cons Picture not so hot with non-digital input such as low channels of your cable box.
Recommended it? Yes

Shopped for months, looked at plasma, DLP & LCD rear projection TVs. Just an awesome picture with a good HD signal input, comparable to most plasmas I've seen (seriously). Very good picture with DVDs (excellent with my LG HD upconverting player with HDMI). Considering price, this is a best buy. I... Read full review »

Pros Good picture quality
Cons short Projection bulb life
Recommended it? No

I purchased my Sony in January 2005, with the intent of watching the Super Bowl on a large screen TV. Now it's May and I experience a burn out of my Projection Lamp. I would not think this Lamp has burned out in less than six month of viewing.
After contacting Sony's service department, I was... Read full review »

Pros Light, easy to move, Great Picture Quality
Cons They are pricey in the stores but you can find a good deal on epinions.
Recommended it? Yes

I bought this TV after asking a lot of questions. I have it in a smaller room compared to most and the picture quality is still amazing. I haven't had it a long time yet, but am sure Sony will take care of me for at least the first year. I do like the fact that if the bulb goes out i can fix it... Read full review »

Pros Picture quality is incredible
Cons They should offer classes on using it, it is difficult to use.
Recommended it? Yes

I shopped for a TV of the approximate size of the 50" Sony kdf-50we655 at a local high end electronics store, and the picture quality of this tv was the best of any. The picture quality is just as good at home, incredible! As I read in many other reviews, the remote is pretty bad. Not only are the... Read full review »

Pros Has great picture for first few weeks.
Cons Picture went to #*&^ after first couple of months.

In short, after two months of owning this tv, it now sits in a repair shop somewhere. The colors were awesome at first. Then after a couple of weeks, they turned to mostly magenta with shades of red and green. The guy at the repair place said this was common with sony LCD screens right now... Read full review »

I bought this High Def TV in Sept 04 (primarily for watching football). The High Def broadcasts are spellbinding. The picture is so brilliant and clear that everyone who watches the games with me cannot believe their eyes.

I have wanted to get a big screen TV for a long time. I moved out on my own about 5 years ago and struggled with a 20 inch and finally upgraded to a 27 inch Sony Wega which was a huge improvement soundwise and picturewise. This year after a recent promotion at work I decided to treat myself to a... Read full review »

Pros Price, Picture, Size, Weight, Features
Cons Cabinet style a little bland, extended warranty a must to cover replacement bulb cost.

After three months of shopping, I purchased a 50" Sony KDF 50WE655 Rear Projection LCD. I compared Plasma sets that were smaller in size at 42" and more expensive at $5500. I walked out the door paying $2370 with a 5 year extended warranty for the Sony KDF-50WE655 and in my opinion have the same if... Read full review »
