Pros Great diversity in levels, intuitive plot, cool sound
Cons Not much replay value
Recommended it? Yes

Ah. Sonic The Hedgehog. Sega's once trademark character. (For those confused on 'once', just FYI that a port of Sonic Adventure 2 will be on Gamecube in the next half-year or so.) Now, with the advent of the (now defunct) Dreamcast, Sega ships a very nicely-done Action/Adventure series.

Cons Short, it has it's frustrating moments

Sonic Adventure, one of the Dreamcast release games. Well, of course everyone was exited about this game. Sega's previous system, SEGA Saturn, had no major Sonic titles, so this game was long waited for. Some long time Sonic fans may have been disappointed with this. Why? Well, different engine,... Boy, I've been playing it since Christmas morning of 99 and I ended up playing the game till 5am at one time. I haven't beaten the game yet, but I hope I do. I just LOVE this game to death! I'm playing too much of this game, and I'm LOVING it!

Okay. The number one thing in my reviews: the... Read full review »

Looking upon the string of recent games (1998-now) that are terrible, there are several that really jump out, such as Mario Tennis, Dead or Alive 2, Cool Boarders 2001, and....Sonic Adventure. Sonic really shines in complete 3D glory, shaking off his somewhat-terrible Sega Saturn adventures and... Read full review »

Don't speed past this game

Pros Looks good and controls well, plus it's (mostly) fun.
Cons The camera can get real frustrating and one play-through is enough.

Don't let the title fool you, the titular blue hedgehog isn't the only character you'll control during this game. I guess Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, E-102 Gamma, and Big Adventure just doesn't have the same "ring" (no pun intended) to it.

Each of the game's six characters' stages are... Read full review »

I love this game. I got it way back in 9/9/99. It was the first game I got with my Dreamcast.

Out of all the Sonic games ever released, this one is my favorite.

The point of this game is to stop the evil Doctor Robotnick, just like usual. But this time he has a new weapon up his... Read full review »

I don't even own the game. I didn't even want to borrow it from my best friend Gina, but she insisted because she felt guilty for borrowing my Smash Pack. For a long while Sonic just sat on my dresser collecting dust, until spring break came along and I decided to play it. And now I'm wondering how... Read full review »

Back in the early 90's, the world was introduced to Mario's biggest rival, Sonic the Hedgehog. What made this game run circles around Nintendo's plumber boy could be summed up with one word: speed. Sonic could run faster than any creature in the game, and better yet, the console could keep up with... Read full review »

This was the first game that I bought for the dreamcast and I thought that if all the games could be half as cool as this the dreamcast would live on forever (unfortunately all the games are not half as good as it). It has stunning graphics and the largest worlds i have ever seen in a game before... Read full review »

Sonic Adventure

After several years in video game retirement, Sonic the Hedgehog returns as the star of a graphically stunning 3-D adventure game that blows away every other game in the genre. Sonic is joined by five of his friends in a massive quest that spans over 50 game levels filled with remarkable visuals and a pulsating soundtrack. Taking full advantage of the unprecedented processing power of the Dreamcast, Sega's development crew, Sonic Team, has designed several gravity-defying game levels that will keep gamers hooked. Our favorite level is Windy Valley, which requires you to survive the stormy perils of a tremendous tornado. This tyrant of nature chases you relentlessly before ultimately sucking you into the air and up through its eye. During the chase, the tornado manages to tear up just about everything on the screen. This dizzying visual spectacle moves so fast that you will literally hold on to the game controller for dear life. Assuming you survive the tornado, there are several more challenging areas to conquer, including a level that requires you to snowboard directly in the path of a fast-approaching avalanche. During the Emerald Coast level, you will race across a precarious dock as a killer whale attacks from below, destroying the wood planks underneath your feet while you attempt to outrun the crazed creature. We also liked the numerous mini-games scattered throughout this title. When you least expect it, Sonic Adventure tosses in some old-fashioned arcade action, such as pinball or bumper car racing. In between, you can raise virtual pets, known in the game as "Chao." These characters, which are saved using the optional Visual Memory Unit (VMU), can be combined with other Chao characters exchanged between friends or downloaded via the Internet. Gamers looking to show off the strong processing power of the 128-bit Dreamcast will definitely want to pick up this title. Simply put, Sonic Adventure's graphics surpass those of any other game currently available on any home video game system. Let the Sonic assault begin. --Brett Atwood Pros: Strong replay value Stunning graphics Bonus virtual pet game Six different game characters Cons: May be too fast-moving for some players Awkward camera angles can inhibit gameplay in some areas
