Senn 600 vs. Audio Technica W100

byshivohum May 3, 2003

Pros Airy, great bass, clear sound, superb macrodynamics.
Cons A tiny bit soft in the upper mid-range.
Recommended it? Yes

I've had my Audio Technica W100 for a few weeks now, and my Sennheiser HD600 for a few months (though I owned another pair a year before that, and owned 580s for two years).

I've organized this review for maximum viewing pleasure. First come my conclusions on the sound of these two... Read full review »

Pros Excellent sound, very comfortable
Cons Must break them in for best sound, price is high.
Recommended it? Yes

Well, after 20+ years with a pair of Yamaha YH-1 headphones, I finally had one of the wires intermittently go south and the left earpiece break off. Loved them, though. I tried various Sony's, Yamaha's, Panasonics, but didn't like any of them. They were either uncomfortable, sounded lousy or both... Read full review »

HD 590s Rock

Pros Comfort & Sound Quality
Cons Price?
Recommended it? Yes

As I write this review, I'm listening to NIN - Closer, and it sounds SUPERB. I'm listening to the song, because I'm giving these HD 590s some burn in time:) You can hear minute details, including what sounds like tape spinning on an old tape reel, which I could never hear out of at least 5... Inexpensive Bliss......

Pros BEST BUY WITHOUT BUYING CONCERT TICKETS..
Cons Not cheap but still a bargain
Recommended it? Yes

I purchased a pair these headphones about 2 weeks ago. (For the purpose of comparison my reference headphones are ESP.9s---30/15kHz +-1.3db no longer made but you can compare at >$1k). These phones, however, can do things even my reference phones can't do and at 1/4 the current comparative price!... Read full review »

One of the best hi-end phones I've heard.

Pros VERY transparent, detailed, smooth, accurate, airy, and musical sound! EXTREMELY...
Cons Not very portable. Bulky.
Recommended it? Yes

These phones don't have the boomy bass and exaggerated highs of "hi-fi" phones. However, if you like deep, tight bass, extended highs , a transparent, smooth midrange and an accurate , airy, detailed sound; you'll love these headphones! They sound great with all types of music. They are very... Read full review »

Good Cans

Pros comfortable, sound great
Cons kind of expensive
Recommended it? Yes

Purchased new on eBay.

Sound great, very comfortable. Unfortunately I cannot be too specific since I can only compare them with fairly inexpensive Koss and Sony headphones. The Sennheiser 600s are unquestionably much better than anything I have listened to before. No need for A/B testing... Read full review »

The best full-size headphones that I've ever bought!

Pros Outstanding sound quality from most sources, exceptional comfort
Cons Less than ideal for portable use without an amp
Recommended it? Yes

Several months ago I visited a home-furnishings superstore called The Great Indoors, and I looked at the amazing selection of Sennheiser headphones there. Unfortunately, the Sennheiser models that they had on display and had available for self-service purchase were mediocre at best except for the... Read full review »

Where Great Sound Meets Unmatched Comfort

Pros Superb Sound and Great Comfort.
Cons A bit expensive but you get what you pay for.
Recommended it? Yes

I have to let you know that I'm coming from a PC user level and that normally I never use headphones with my setup, choosing only to go with creative's speaker rigs to match my Audigy sound card.

After listening to the sound quality produced from the 590, my speaker solution is now... Read full review »

Different take than previous reviewers.

Pros sound quality, more comfortable than Grado
Cons price, not as comfortable as the HD590
Recommended it? Yes

Sound is excellent-none better. Not as comfortable as the HD590, but much better than any Grado. Bought on ebay from Soundemporium - who provided excellent service in every respect (I am "outa-time" on ebay). I have some different takes on other reviews I've read. One is that I could clearly hear... Read full review »

Pros Fantastic sound; wonderfully comfortable.
Cons Relatively expensive; flimsy cables.
Recommended it? Yes

I switched to Sennheiser HD-600s from a pair of Grado SR-125 cans, and I'll tell you this: I am never going back. The excellent comfort alone would be enough to dissuade me from doing so; however, the HD-600s sound much better, too.

The HD-600s have a nice, relatively-flat frequency... Read full review »
