Pros full QWERTY keyboard; tip calculator; world clock; alarm clock; small size
Cons battery life; phone gets hot easily & quickly
Recommended it? Yes

Now that I've had this phone for a few months now I can actually write a review on it. As a previous user of only Nokia and Motorola phones, I've recently given in to buying Samsung.

Screen
The screen size on this phone is pretty good considering how thin and small the phone is. The... Read full review »

Great multipurpose Phone

Pros Flip Design, QWERTY keyboard, sound quality, MP3 Player capability
Cons Flimsy MicroSD cover, Spring loaded SD drive, mobile web on phone unimpressive
Recommended it? Yes

I've had Verizon Wireless for over two years now. When it came time to renew my contract in November, they also offered me $100 credit towards a phone with the New Every Two program. When I first saw the SCH-u740, I liked the fact that had a flip design, and the QWERTY keyboard was a definite plus... Read full review »

Great Teenager Phone

byychromosome Apr 16, 2008

Pros Sleek, good looking, durable, full of functions that teenagers demand
Cons Haven't found any beyond the cost of all the text messages
Recommended it? Yes

When the daughter turned 13, I offered to get her a mobile phone. My plan was of course to get her a basic (cheap) phone she could use to call home or use in an emergency - you know, the free phones they give you when you sign up for a new line of service. She of course had other ideas, and... Read full review »

Sometimes you Feel a Little Qwerty, Sometimes you Don't

Pros Dual hinge, Full QWERTY keyboard, Mp3 player
Cons Uses a different type of headset jack
Recommended it? Yes

The Samsung U740 (aka Samsung Alias) replaced my absolute wonderful Samsung T300. I am still a bit sad about replacing it. Sure the phone was about 7 years old, but it still was a bit before I was ready. Don't worry though, the Samsung U740 will still get a fair review.

I am a bit like a... Read full review »

Great Samsung and perfect for texting

Pros Good battery life, perfect for texting with QWERTY keyboard, sleek, design.
Cons Slightly flimsy, can only hold 50 text messages at once, small buttons.
Recommended it? Yes

The Samsung SCH-u740 is the perfect teenager phone. It's perfect for texting, but if your primary use is going to be for business, don't bother picking up this phone. The battery life is great however, the phone can only hold 50 text messages at once and once you reach that limit you have to delete... Read full review »

Great Phone!

Pros Two-way opening, lots of features.
Cons Hinge opening/closing may wear, charger/SD slot covers flimsy.
Recommended it? Yes

I upgraded to Verizon Wireless from Nextel about eighteen months ago. While the Verizon store I went to only had a limited selection of phones at the time, I more or less chose the Samsung Alias at random. I must say it was an excellent choice which has performed very well for me since then. Many... Read full review »

The perfect phone for the serial texter

bysuprechic99 May 1, 2008

Pros design, functionality, QWERTY keypad, signal reception, two colors to choose from
Cons nothing!
Recommended it? Yes

I bought this phone in the summer of 2007 under a promotion at Verizon. I bought it because I'm a serial texter, and the QWERTY keypad really appealed to me. I also liked how it had the hinged design that allows you to flip it vertically (to talk) and horizontally (to use the QWERTY keypad). The... Read full review »

Pros two-way flip design, QWERTY keyboard, 1.3 megapixel camera, low SAR
Cons smallish keys, awkward number typing in landscape mode, max volume a little low
Recommended it? Yes

After over four years of using the same cell phone, I finally got around to upgrading in May of 2008.

With the recent concern over cell phone radiation, I decided to play it safe and try to find a phone with a lower radiation emission. Emissions are measured in SAR, and Cnet has a ranking... Read full review »

A text messenger's dream!

bytunecrab Jun 15, 2008
5 Helpfuls 6 Helpfuls Was this review helpful? Comment
Pros Ability to switch to QWERTY mode and back to flip-phone mode.
Cons The keys on the keyboard are rather small, but necessary for the purpose
Recommended it? Yes

I've had this phone since it first came out, and I still love it! Up until Samsung introduced this brilliant design, all I used was Motorola phones. As a text addict, it was impossible to resist the ability to switch to the QWERTY keyboard AND switch back to a regular comfortable flip phone mode... Read full review »

Pros Size, convenient speaker location, awesome keyboard, great reception, loud speaker,...
Cons Battery life, camera, web browsing
Recommended it? Yes

I have to say that I have returned 3 phones already to Verizon because they don't measure up to my Samsung U-740.  The dare, the voyager and the Env pale in comparison to this wonderful phone.  Why Samsung didn't come out with an upgrade to this phone with the same keyboard is beyond me.  Instead...
