HORRIBLE HORRIBLE DANGEROUS TERRIBLE!!
OK, so I thought I was crazy, not being able to make a decent meal with my crockpot. People were making fun of me, "HOW CAN YOU BURN ANYTHING IN A CROCKPOT"??
Now, I look at the reviews on this thing and see that I AM NOT ALONE.
I always wondered why people liked food out of a crockpot!...

Don't Waste Your Money
My Mom and I both received one of these several years ago as a gift. They both boil foods on the low setting. Water bubbles out of the lid and makes a mess all over the counter. The lid seems to kind of float in the water that collects on the rim of the crock. I've noticed that this crock insert... Read full review »
NOT a slow-cooker
I was so excited to receive this slow-cooker as a gift. This is a sleek-looking appliance and makes a lovely presentation, when the food is not burnt. The recipe must be quite large to prevent burning and must be stirred during the cooking process. Therefore, it's purpose is defeated. Read full review »
Boils the food
Can not leave food cooking unattended; the food boils even on LOW setting. The lid is too light and lets moisture escape. After burning up food left unattended, will throw the pot away. A total waste of my money. Rival should be ashamed to let this product be released. Read full review »
rival smart pot 5 quart 38501
USED MINE ONCE AND RETURNED IT TO THE STORE. STEW WAS DONE AFTER 5 HRS ON LOW RATHER THAN 8 TO 10 HRS. BOILED ON LOW SETTING. SMELLED LIKE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. Read full review »
A good crock can't save a lousy cook!
I've been using this over a year. I live in a hotel without a kitchen, here in Las Vegas. I've cooked many dozens of meals, from roasts and stews to chilies and soups, for myself and other tenants without ANY of the negative effects other posters have indicated. I am a Slot Technician with 10 hour... Read full review »
Disappointing experience.
I bought my Rival crock pot because I had one in the early 80's, used it for years and I loved it. It finally gave out so I decided to purchase a new one. I felt the Rival name still sold the same high quality merchandise. It was purchased Jan, 2007 and used for the first time today, Feb 10. I had... Read full review »
Don't waste your money
I have used this crock pot many times and am now searching for a new one. Meals have been ruined in it if I haven't been home to watch them. It seems to run very hot and the settings don't vary too much. The final straw was spaghetti sauce bubbling over on the low setting while I was out of the... Read full review »
Three Times not Lucky
Our 20yr old crock pot was getting hot on the outside so we decided to replace it. We originally bought the 5445BCN model without a timer, it boiled/burned everything. We replaced it with the 38501 Model, which did the same thing. We took it back & exchanged for the same model which also does the... Read full review »
DANGEROUS PRODUCT!
Poorly designed and ill-tested. Rim of the heating element is exposed all around the top of the unit and UNDER THE HANDLES OF THE PORCALAIN CROCK. The porcelain crock slides around inside the heating unit when trying to stir contents. Unit was on for 5 minutes, my wife went to stir contents when... Read full review »
