This third release is composed of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon from J. Davies Vineyard on Diamond Mountain and 5% Petit Verdot from our Pedregal Vineyard in Oakville. While we try not to use too much new oak, density of this wine allowed it to spend 26 months in all new barrels, after which it was bottled without filtration. As with all of our wines, this was fermented with native yeasts and bacteria. International Wine Cellar rating: 92.

2007 Ramey Cabernet Sauvignon Pedregal VYD Oakville 97+pts (WA)

A blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% each Cabernet Franc and Malbec. A new release for us, this represents our version of a winemaker's wine. Having spent so much time working in Bordeaux and visiting Burgundy, Loire and Rhone, I'm deeply steeped in French winemaking tradition, including their orientation toward growing site or region. Thus, all our wines are either vineyard designates or regional blends. While Annum is an appellation wine, it is one blend we make each year that allows us to select from a range of vineyards to make best blend possible that vintage. This year's blend comes 54% from two Sangiacomo vineyards, Tall Grass and Green Acres; 20% from Larry Hyde's own Bayview Vineyard (this is his personal vineyard and not Hyde Vineyard, but also in Napa), 11% Hudson Vineyard and 15% Platt Vineyard (Sonoma Coast), to lighten blend. heavier, clay-based soils of Carneros produce wines with a broad, full mouthfeel. Our third vintage of this appellation Cabernet, into which we declassified our final harvest from Larkmead Vineyard at 37% of blend. Other vineyards included were Somerston, 36%; Snowden, 15%; Lamoreaux, 7%; and DeSantis, 5%. Aging on fine lees incorporates oak so that two years spent in half new barrels (a mixture of French and American) is barely noticeable. As with all of our wines, it was fermented with native yeasts and bacteria and bottled without filtration. This wine combines harmony produced by traditional Bordelaise winemaking techniques with voluptuousness of a great Napa Valley vintage. 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Malbec, 3% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Situated directly in center of Russian River appellation, our block of Kent Ritchie's vineyard was planted in 1972 to old Wente selection. Widely spaced-fashion at time-these old vines with their gnarly trunks produce tiny quantities of grapes per vine. benchland soil is pure Goldridge Loam, common to great vineyards in this part of Russian River Valley. This year's bottling is third to come entirely from B-block, planted in 2001 to a Wente selection from Hyde Vineyard, so vines were nine years old this vintage and further developing their maturity. Hudson Vineyard wines tend to a more muscular, masculine character-broad- shouldered, if you will.

This is second vintage to be dominated by Martinelli Charles Ranch on Bohan Dillon Road. Planted in 1982, this is one of most spectacular vineyards in Sonoma County. Our Sonoma Coast bottling reflects its region and so is a bit crisper and leaner than our Russian River. International Wine Cellar rating: 91.
