Pros Writers using word pirouettes are a rare gem in the music publication industry; It's...
Cons The home office is located across The Pond, so it's pricey to have it sent to your...
Recommended it? Yes

This magazine has been ranked number one in the UK music media industry for 11 years running and with bloody good reason.

It's a quadrille of voices compiled into a single source for joyous, easy-to-comprehend reading. Unlike the many Americans, the Brits excel in witty descriptions of... Read full review »

Q, not as in queer or alternative, though

Pros big, thick, reader-friendly, exhaustive
Cons expensive, very Anglophile
Recommended it? Yes

....... what Q is instead is comprehensive. This is the biggest, most thorough British look at popular music, and thus pop culture in general. Each issue usually proclaims "over 200 albums reviewed," and they mean it. From A to Z, the short, on-target reviews fill the central section of the... Read full review »

Pros a lot of great articles
Cons that let robbie williams article slip in there now and then
Recommended it? Yes

I have always grown up buying music magazines. Mostly buying Rolling Stone to keep up with all sought of music news. However I have been living in London for the past year and have taken to many British bands. Most of these bands do not get a tiny album review in Rolling Stone let alone a feature... Pros focuses on British music, nice features, good columns, interviews, cds
Cons price
Recommended it? Yes

Seeing how I live somewhere that does not cherish and love British Music like all citizens of planet Earth should, I seldom get information that's not from the internet on Brit pop/rock. The local newspaper might had a little tidbit on it once in a while and the campus newspaper might do an album... Read full review »

Pros thick and full of currents
Cons a little more than your regular magazine
Recommended it? Yes

Q magazine is a rare gem among many bricks of coal. The truth is that Q is not ladden with ads and garbage that most American rock/pop music magazines are known (and hated) for. Q is from the UK, and so it is a little bit more than your news stand price... but it's worth the extra dollar. It's... Read full review »

Pros A thorough well written read for the discerning music fan.
Cons Much maligned for being a thirty somethings mag. Ignore these rumours.
Recommended it? Yes

Often lauded as the music magazine for the thirty something in its formative years I have to digress that nine times out of ten when I see a fresh copy of Q on the magazine racks I invariably pick it up.

There are many good reasons why I buy Q, for my money it has always been one of the... Read full review »

Pros Intelligent, witty, informative
Cons probably expensive in the US
Recommended it? Yes

Q is widely regarded as the best British music magazine. It's intelligent and witty without being pretentious. It's also wide-ranging, focusing primarily on the mainstream but without ignoring the fringes and lesser-known acts. Being a UK magazine, it obviously has a more British slant, but given... Boring

Pros Lots to read
Cons Every issue seems the same
Recommended it? No

Q is one of the dullest music magazines on the face of the earth. The writing is predictable and the artists featured are your standard middle of the road-gang (Shania, Oasis, Beautiful South). With more than 200 pages, this will lull you to sleep in no time. But the layout is slick, and there are... Read full review »
