Some Nice Features, Some Not So Nice Features
First, the positives. Picture and sound quality on playback are excellent. The remote has a toggle with a 30 second commercial skip at the top and "Rapid Play" at the bottom. A huge improvement
This was the second DVD recorder from the new generation with ATSC tuners I tried - the first one was the LG DR787T. It was a close call, but at the end (and after trying the Samsung DVD-AR650 of course!) I decided to keep the LG.

Good choice if you can live with the quirks
Bought this on impulse after seeing that it had a built in ATSC tuner. It replaced a Cyberhome CH-300 on a 27-in conventional TV in my bedroom. A Cheap Unit
After some bad experiences with other ATSC DVD Recorders, I decided to check them all out. This was one of them. See my other reviews.
The picture quality was pretty good. I found the Samsung DVD-AR650 to have the best picture. The Philips was #2 and #3 was the LG.

recording flaw
I bought this recorder to transfer images from my DVD cam to a standard DVD. I learned through countless hours that you can not record in 16:9. Even if you send the recorder a signal in 16:9 it will record in 4:3. Page 38 of the manual clearly states this flaw. Read full review »
Phillips is Best Picture Clarity on "CRT" TV
The Phillips DVDR3505/37 has the best "digital tuner" picture quality out of the two other DVD recorders that I have tested with "digital tuners" (Panasonic and Samsung).
