Pros Love the features; a great oven when working
Cons Won't make it over 3 years.  Too many people with H97 errors (DEAD)!
Recommended it? No

I have always for years said that I have never had a bad Panasonic product. I must say however that I will not purchase another one of their ovens. I love the features especially the dial timer. This was  my 3rd in 4 years the last dying tonight at  16 months. The other two dyed from the... Read full review »

Pros pricy
Cons dreaded error

There comes a point in your life when you have to fly the coop, leave your parents and set up home by yourself somewhere, and with it comes the need to buy...well....pretty much EVERYTHING for your home. A microwave was one of my must haves, so I thought the Panasonic NN-SD997S would do. I kind of... Read full review »

Not good microwave

bywxbomt Apr 4, 2013
13 Helpfuls 14 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros many features
Cons the dial
Recommended it? No

This microwave is not very goog. I hate having to turn the dial to get the time I want instead of having a keypad where I can enter it exactly. With the dial, it goes slow at first and then really fast, and it takes a lot of adjustment to get it to the right time. It would be so much faster to have... Read full review »

Pros Twist knob time setting, and defrost functions
Cons Unit won't last.
Recommended it? No

Mine is the previous incarnation of this unit sd-787s.  I've owned two of these in the last 3 years.  One lasted a few months and the other 2 years.  I loved the twist knob to set the time and the defrost features.  But I'd like the unit to last longer.  I've always found... Read full review »

This is a not worth buying.  My old Panasonic lasted 20 years and this one died after less than a year.   Do not buy this poor item.   Will not buy Panasonic again.

I purchased my new Panasonic Prestige 1250 Watt stainless steel microwave oven to replace a microwave that had broken due to years of use. But before purchasing this microwave I did a week worth of research to select a microwave that would be suitable for my family needs. I have two young adult... Read full review »

Pros I can scrap the stainless steel
Cons I lost $165
Recommended it? No

After 11 months of use, motor died with a H97 error. Panasonics solution, I drive the junk 35 miles one way to a service center so they can steal more money out of me. Panasonic has become just another way to dump cheap Chinese garbage in America. My family will be avoid all Panasonic products from... Read full review »

Cons None so far

I have only owned this microwave for a couple months, so I can only speak to how it has performed so far.  As of today, I love it.

It defrosts quicker and more evenly than my previous microwave.  For example, it doesn't cook the edges of frozen ground beef and leave the... Read full review »

Pros Wife liked the popcorn setting
Cons Hard to see through the window on this unit.

Third Panasonic high end in 9 years. Love the high cooking power after 20 years with a Litton. The units have all had the same form factor which is important in our kitchen location. The odd knob works extremely well. I don't think I could return to the keypad on the previous units. I hope this one... Read full review »

Great Microwave

3 Helpfuls 4 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Unique idea that uses a dial for setting cooking time and weights.
Cons None that I can think of.
Recommended it? Yes

Although I've had good luck with Panasonic products (except their wireless telephones), I didn't think I would want a M/W with a dial...seemed old-fashioned. Well it turns out that it speeds up the amount of time it takes to set variables, such as, cooking time and weights. It actually is an... Read full review »

Pros Fast, sensor heating is fabulous, cooks evenly
Cons Has push button type door. We prefer the regular handle that you pull open.

When we needed a new microwave I started to research what was out there as we hadn't looked for a microwave oven in a long time. We eventually ended up with the Panasonic NNSD797S, but I have to say in the beginning Panasonic was not even in the realm of possibilities. Not that I have anything... Read full review »

[UPDATE 8/25/2009:  After having owned this Panasonic NN-SD997S oven for nearly two years now, the oven is still in perfect operating condition and still looks almost brand new.   We have had house guests remark how simple and intutive this oven is to use, with the knob control to set the cooking...
