Decent recorder
I have been using this recorder for about 1 year. It has generally been a good experience. The recording quality is not as good as the raw video signal, but it is reasonable. Even though it has a 100 gig hard disk, when you write directly to the DVD, it doesn't buffer to hard disk. THis is just... Read full review »
Panasonic does it right again
So I've had this recorder for over a year and a half. I use it every day to record for later viewing and archiving when I want to keep it. It records to hard drive flawlessly and archives to DVD +/- R, 99% of the time. Sometimes if the video has been on the hard drive for months, is has trouble... Read full review »
Hearty machine
I'm on my second DMR-E50. The first one finally died after a year's hard labor (daily, nonstop use). I bought my second one shortly thereafter, and it's going strong. Excellent machine if you don't need a hard drive for editing. Read full review »
Worth the extra money.
The Panasonic DMR-EH50 is a great product for the beginner to intermediate DVD user. Transferring video from cable, some DVDs or a camcorder is very easy. Unlike the model that doesn't have a HDD, it's very unlikely you will ever run out of recording space on the unit. Editing, such as cutting out... Read full review »
What's wrong with the E50
I purchased my Panasonic DMR-E50K (black model) in July of 2004. I don't no why some people are having problems recording to certain brand of Disc's. I've used Office Depot, HP, JVC, Memorex, Phillips DVD-R & all were recorded successfully! All my DVD movies made by using Nero software (the best)... Read full review »
Works OK but user interface engineering team should be FIRED
OK I've had this for about 1 year now. It records shows fine, but has some significant user interface problems.
1) You cannot record a program and watch a different one at the same time. A guess the $10 for another tuner is too much to ask. You can of course watch another program by...

Love/hate relationship with a DVD recorder
A while ago, CNN reported that Americans spend, on average, 20 minutes trying to get a new "gadget" to work before taking it back for a refund. If this is your approach to new electronics toys, don't even think about it with this one. It is quite counter-intuitive to operate, the manual is poorly... Read full review »
Does what it advertises
I purchased the EH50 after first owning and returning a Panasonic E85H. That unit had firmware issues that could not be resolved, but being a Panasonic fan I stuck with them and tried this one. My persistence seems to have worked.
This unit does all I ask of it, although some of the...

Still needs work...
Bought this model when it hit the store shelves at Circuit City. Problem is it seems to have difficulty with allot of the available DVD-R type discs. My wife wants to junk it as it's been very unreliable for the recording of her soaps. We often return home to find the recorder saying "Incompatible... Read full review »
Great little machine
I have wanted a DVD recorder and DVR for quite a while. I finally decided it was time to bite the bullet and buy one. I was running out of room to store videotapes, and hoped to start dubbing the indispensible ones to DVD and free up some room.
Reviews of the unit were generally positive,...

Didn't meet expectations
Bought in September, went bad in December. I mainly used this to dub home movies. This is my 3rd consecutive panasonic unit that I've bought. You can read my reviews for the others. This unit has worked great until now. I did have some timer problems where a show was supposed to start recording at... Read full review »
Good bye to the VCR
I was getting tired of juggling tapes around... putting them in to see what was recorded on them to make sure I didn't tape over anything I hadn't seen yet, etc. Then having a bad recording because the tape I used several times was worn out. Plus I just wanted to step into the 21st century. First I... Read full review »
Can NOT receive HD & Digital signals on antenna.
In a word, disappointment. We recently purchased a Panasonic HD plasma TV and we have been very pleased with its reception of analog, digital, and HD signals from the antenna input. We live in a rural setting and cable is not an option. We then purchased the DMR-EH50 dvd recorder to complement the... Read full review »
Research your cable before buying.
When I bought the Panasonic DMR-EH50, it had almost all the features I wanted-- harddrive recording and editing, recording to DVD+R (although not to DVD+RW) and SD card, and easy-to-use interface with the On-Screen TV Guide for setting up recording, an IR blaster for my cable box, and all the... An OK Performer but with problems
The Panasonic DMR EH-50 is a generally capable machine for recording programs off the air and archiving to DVD R. It supports many but not all R/RW formats, plus DVD-RAM, which is mostly useless and is supported by very few other set top units or computers.
You can remove commercials from...

A Slow Painful Death
My Painasonic DMR-E50 only lasted a little over a year. First it became autistic and finally slipped into a coma. I do not expect a recovery. I recorded about 200 discs with it. It is unlikely I will be buying any more Panasonic products. Read full review »
Buy it.
I can't add much more than Toolmandbg wrote above. I've only had mine a week and it has taken me that long to figure out all the bells and whistles (well nearly all of them) as he rightly states the manual is pathetic. Thank heaven the machine more than makes up for it. The on screen help is very... Read full review »
Good VCR Replacement
My good old VCR was dieing a slow death. You can't fine a good VCR for sale anymore, you have to go with a DVD recorder. There are many out on the market and their prices are going down fast, but if you spend a little more You can get a great machine.
The Panasonic DMR-EH50 DVD recorder is a...

This machine purchased to replace aging VCR
This unit performs admirably in most areas of use. I was very pleased with picture quality and ease of use.The ability to edit recorded material prior to burning to DVD is a major plus. However, this unit has a flaw in its timer record function, that in short, the unit fails to wake up and record... Read full review »
Setup not so friendly
Received mine and set it up yesterday. Still trying to figure out how to get the setup menu to display. Called customer care, who blamed the problem on my TV and my lack of knowledge about my TV, insisting that there is no problem with the DVD Recorder, and stating flatly that they cannot help...
