Pros Characters, plot, writing, Everything.
Cons Not a thing.

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon is not a new book, but it certainly one that has stood the test of time and a novel that should be introduced to a new generation of reader.  It is the 20th anniversary of the novel and in celebration some copies of the book were given away on... Read full review »

Cons graphic sex and violence might put off some, a few tedious sequences

Recently I put it out to my friends on Facebook for book recommendations. I had run the gamut of stories with my usual favorite authors and was looking for something a little different.  One of the recommendations I received was for Outlander by Diana Gabaldon.  It was the first book in a... Pros Well thought out story.
Cons Multiple instances of violence take away from the story as a whole.

This book is far from what I expected.  Recommended to me by a book message board, I had expected a fantasy type novel with just a hint of romance.  While there's some of that Outlander is vastly different from normal time travel books.

Claire, a married nurse from the 1940's is on... Read full review »

Gabaldon writes a fascinating romantic tale woven of Scottish history.  The beginning was a bit slow, but soon I found myself completely enthralled with the story line and completely lost in Jamie and Claire's lives.  Gabaldon sucks readers into the series with this novel, forcing you to... D. Gabaldon is a good story teller & she researches not only her sites but history facts.  The only problem I have is makes it so long & some of the characters come in & out of the story. Read full review »

A friend gave me Outlander by Diana Gabaldon for my birthday.  She has talked about a fantastic series by Gabaldon for a long time and I had never heard of the books, nor the author.  I just finished reading all 850 pages of Outlander and I cannot wait to delve into the next book in the series,... Pros Well thought out and entertaining story.
Cons Gabaldon takes five years between writing the next book in the series - torture.

I am turned off by fantasies. Put a little romance into it and I am bound to be rolling my eyes. For some reason, this book does not apply. A few years ago, I saw my roomate curled up in her bed reading this novel, "Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon. She would not, and could not, put it down. I asked to... Read full review »

I was given this book by a friend who bought it because it was thick and she had a long flight ahead. Instead she met someone on the plane to talk to and gave it to me since she knew I liked scifi/fantasy and it was about time travel. I started it on a Friday night and had to finish it over the... Like others here I have read and reread this book numerous times. The book jacket excerpts and descriptions do NOT do it justice.

I resisted buying Gabaldon's books for the longest time. The blurb said it would be just another time travel story, and I couldn't see why there were so many in the series. Thick books, too.

But she writes well. I found out how well when I bought Legends II for Robin Hobb's story. I was... Read full review »

I gave up reading romance novels twenty years ago because I felt I was reading the same novel over and over again, only with different names and settings. Because of the story line, I decided to give Outlander a try. Soon I was addicted to the world of Claire and Jamie and their unusual love story... Read full review »

I am reading this book for the fourth time for two very good reasons. First, because the author, Diana Gabaldon, writes such fascinating tales packed with information and action that I can reread one of her books and not be bored.

Second, because she writes so darn slow. Outlander was... Read full review »
