After using the Canon Digital Rebel XT with an 18-55 mm lens, I decided to try the latest affordable digital SLR from Olympus - Olympus EVOLT E-500 with 14-45 mm f/3.5-5.6 Olympus Zuiko lens. I bought the camera with the lens for $688.

Pros Dual memory slots, image quality, price.
Cons Relatively slow lenses, manual focusing not as easy as it could be.

Why This Camera
Simple. Value for money. With the dual lens kit, this is an incredible amount of camera for the money.
I had wanted a DSLR for a long time, well long is relative term in consumer electronics, so let us just say that I've wanted one since they've been viable. When they... Read full review »

Pros Great picture quality and simple to use menu. A true SLR
Cons Red-eye flashes takes too long...

Its not too heavy, not too light, its just right for my hands. Almost sounds like Goldie Locks and the three bears story tag line… However, this is no story. The Olympus E-volt 500 is one serious digital single lens reflex (D-SLR) camera. I already have a HP 945 point and shoot camera, but have... Read full review »

Pros 40-150 lens is terrific, easy to use, good ergonomics, 2.5" LCD display is great.
Cons Significant noise at ISO1600, limited selection of lenses
Recommended it? Yes

Having been initiated to photography in my college days on a semi-automatic SLR camera, I have long wanted to purchase a digital SLR camera. I've owned a Minolta Dimage 7i for a few years, and though it's probably still the best fixed-lens digital camera available to this day, I still wanted a... Read full review »

Pros Best value out there, great camera, all you need
Cons Small viewfinder, crippled software, some high-ISO noise, but no deal-breakers
Recommended it? Yes

Quick note: I initially posted kind of a pre-review, then came back the next day to provide more details on my experiences with the Oly E-500. Then I found out I'd broken the rules by doing so. Having graciously accepted my 40 lashes, I've deleted both and cobbled together one long nosebleed... Read full review »

Cons slow multi shot mode and somewhat soft sharpness. Some may find camera body small.

New update of the E300 with same 4/3 imager with 8.0 megapixels. A wide area of Telephoto and Wideangle lenses to run optimally with this cameras' imager. Designed from the start as a digital camera, and not converted from a 35mm camera.

Wide area of features that will make the... Read full review »

I purchased the EVOLT 500 package that contained 2 lenses.
The 28-90(35mm equivalent) and the 40-300 zoom.
I purchased the Olympus 2100UZ many years ago. It was a great camera, even though it was only 2.1mp. I also took an E20n to Alaska last summer.
You can tell that I'm biased.But... Read full review »

Pros Capable and full-featured. Superb resolution
Cons Additional digital Zuiko lenses are rather expensive.

This camera, with its two digital lenses, is the best camera I've ever owned. It's as easy to use as you want it to be and, with every feature able to be set manually as well, as professional as you could desire. It matches, in photo quality, any 35mm SLR I've had. Read full review »

For the past month, now, I have been using my Olympus E-500. I can't tell you how much of an improvement it is over my E-10.
