Moth-eaten Plot!

byscotman55 Nov 6, 2012

Pros Confrontation between unstoppable bad guys and Anita Blake!
Cons Silly sexual situations that add nothing to the story.
Recommended it? No

When one dives into an Anita Blake novel, they have to prepare themselves for lots of soul-searching, angst-ridden love and ridiculous reactions by the protagonist, Anita Blake.

Warning:  Obsidian Butterfly was the hardest to read, graphic violence against men, women and especially... Read full review »

Cons Looks like Jean-Claude and Richard will be back in the next book.

The Anita Blake series started strong in the first book with a preternatural sleuth/zombie raising Christian necromancer (aka Anita). Laurell K. Hamilton created a strong protagonist with a feisty personality and lots of bravado, creating a world for her that mimics our own with the exception that... Read full review »

Anita Blake comes across some of the most entertaining creatures and Obsidian Butterfly is no different! I am sucked in from the first page, and usually can't put it down until I'm finished. Pros Lots of character development, a few new characters, good pacing.
Cons Anticlimactic grand finale.
Recommended it? Yes

It seems these days that vampire romance novels are all the rage. If that's indeed the case, then author Laurel K. Hamilton surely got in at the start with her Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series. It was the vampire hunter aspect of the novels that originally drew me in to the series. Like a... Read full review »

Pros This is a really great book that shows Edward in a very different light.
Cons Non really come to mind because I really enjoyed this book.
Recommended it? Yes

This installment of the Anita Blake series digs deeper into Edward who is a man of mystery. Yes he's an assassin and yes he enjoys killing but that's about all the readers that are familiar with the series knows about him up until this point. So if Edward has had you stumped until now this is you... Read full review »

With Vampires and gods and assassins, it must be an Anita Blake book!

Pros Good story, good villain, lots of Edward
Cons one very perturbing scene, over-written
Recommended it? Yes

Edward had given me an incendiary grenade for my jacket pocket. It helped balance out the derringer in my right-hand pocket… The derringer had been his idea, too… I wasn't sure I really needed it today, but I'd learned never to argue with Edward when he gave me a weapon. If he thought I... Read full review »

Pros tense action sequences punctuate a compelling and novel supernatural murder mystery
Cons extremely disturbing (sometimes sexual) scenes of violence

Let's go through the count of players in this complex and compelling story, supernatural ones first:

Anita Blake, animator of the dead (and, by her 9th tale, possessor of various other hard-earned abilities that surprise even herself), no longer quite human

Richard, her... Read full review »

Pros Great story line, some great new characters, we get to learn about Edward
Cons Jean-Claude and Richard are missing

Wow, with each novel we get new monsters, what an imagination Laurell K. Hamilton has. Obsidian Butterfly is the 9th novel in the Anita Blake series and its still going strong. This is my favorite vampire/supernatural series for good reason. The characters are always developing, I feel as if I... Read full review »

First, an admission: I am flat-out, no holds barred, hooked on the Anita Blake series, having read and reread each one at least three times. Laurell Hamilton's writing and her characters are THAT good.

I believe that Laurell K. Hamilton writes some of the best vampire fiction available today. Her characters, even minor ones, are consistently multi-layered beings with a great deal of depth. Anita Blake is forced to confront conflict on every level, physical, personal, and internal. This book deals... Read full review »

This isn't the first book I've read of the series just the most recent one and it tells you a great deal about Ed's real persona.I must admit in general I hate vampire hunters they look at the vamps and other monsters as dark thing worthy of death. Pros Heaps of suspense.
Cons Horrible first half.
Recommended it? No

Far from winning the Nobel prize, Obsidian Butterfly is dense with details and suspense, making it readable despite slow pacing.

Anita Blake, vampire executioner and necromancer, is assisting a murder case as an expert. The first 100 or so pages contain a lot of Anita's fussing over her... Read full review »

Pros Anita Blake and Edward...where could you go wrong
Cons Not alot of Jean Claude and Jason

I loved this book! It was filled with all the elements that make all of the Anita Blake books so entertaining. This book strayed from the sexual genre that Hamilton has been known to include, but because of the strength of the characters it was not lacking. The book explored Edwards character and... I have read every book in the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series. You might consider me a die-hard fan because I snapped up one book right after another, reading them cover to cover, not touching any other literature until I was finished with the series.
