Get it before it's gone

Pros Price, compared to similarly fast zooms or faster primes.  Build quality, size and...
Cons Old design that 'may' be more subject to CA and flare.
Recommended it? Yes

This lens is certainly an old design, but it still holds up well on digital, at least on DX or APS-C size sensors.  I bought this lens to use with my Nikon D300S.  I have a Sigma 10-20mm and the Nikon 18-55 VR that are close to this lens in focal range, and I own many other lenses. ... A Un-sung Hero

Pros Great sharpness, fast glass, good price, small and light
Cons An old design that still falls short of the best zooms
Recommended it? Yes

This little lens is not too expensive and is sharper than the 20mm 2.8 that costs 175 dollars more. If you can do without the wider angle, the 24mm works better on digital bodies such as the D200 and D80. It's an AF-D lens and will auto focus on all DSLRs except for the crippled D40 series models... Read full review »

So nice it won't stand between you and your images

Pros Color, sharpness, contrast, build quality, size
Cons Flare if a strong light enters the picture
Recommended it? Yes

I bought mine last year, used, from a woman who bought it on Japan in the early 80's and seems to have hardly used it. It's NEW. But that's not what makes it such a nice lens.

Color, sharpness, contrast, build quality, size, weight (I prefer "solid" ones to balance with my F2 bodies and... Read full review »

A catalyst for creativity

Pros Optically superior to the 28, dramatic perspective encourages shots of everyday things.
Cons relatively expensive (500CAD vs. 385CAD for the 28)
Recommended it? Yes

I bought this lens after debating for a few months on whether I was happy with my 28mm af-d. The day I traded in the 28 and picked up the 24 (500CAD) I felt guilty, having succumbed to internet chatter and bought the lens that the masses considered to be great. It turns out the masses are right... Read full review »

ouch that's sharp!

Pros tack sharp, contrasty- excellent for landscapes
Cons need step-up ring and larger filters to avoid vignetting
Recommended it? Yes

If you're looking for a general use wide angle lens for nikon, this is the one. fast enough (f2.8) for low light, wide enough for landscapes and architecture, but not too wide for general use as well.

This lens is ideal for near/far composition- especially at higher fstops, this thing... Read full review »

Astounding wide angle - particularly for starters.

Pros Good sharpness, good depth of field, lightweight, 52mm
Cons No zoom.
Recommended it? Yes

When I wanted to move wide angle for my
N70, I was comparing between this, the Nikon 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5 DAF, and the Nikon 17-35mm f/2.8 D-S zoom.

Among the three of these, this lens is the cheapest, the lightest, and the smallest. And has an amazing clarity. You won't believe how... Read full review »

Great lens!

Pros Solidly built, sharp and contrasty
Cons None that I can think of!
Recommended it? Yes

This is a terrific lens. Nikon employs close range correction (CRC) on this lens to keep the image sharp when focusing on subjects very near to the camera. Close Range Correction is a system that Nikon employs with some of its lenses to keep resolution high when focusing on subjects close to the... Read full review »

Sharp, Compact Wide angle

Pros Compact, Sharp,
Cons None to speak of
Recommended it? Yes

An excellent lens for scenery with little distortion and very sharp images.

Used to rely on a 21mm f2.0 lens as my wideangle of choice with previous system (Olympus), but when I made the switch to Nikon, chose the 24. Have not missed the extra 3mm, and rarely miss the extra aperture... Read full review »
