Highly recommended for casual birding

Pros Waterproof, lightweight, fogproof and smaller field of view great for birding.
Cons Quite a bit to pay, but no real downside to these.
Recommended it? Yes

First, a short primer on binocs in general. There are two basic types of binoculars. These are Porro prism and roof prism.

You can tell the types apart by their shape. Porro prisms have an angular appearance which makes them appear M-shaped when looking at their barrels. Focusing a Porro... Read full review »

Very good in price range

Pros Value, warranty, durability.
Cons None.
Recommended it? Yes

I've had these for about a year and have had several pairs of binoculars, in the same price range or cheaper, in the past.  The first thing I noticed about these binoculars was that they were lighter than other 10x42's I had.  That was a benefit to me, but others may prefer more weight if... The good and the bads of my Nikon monarchs

byarch8 Jan 12, 2008
5 Helpfuls 6 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros good optics, clear, crisp, durable
Cons The twisting eye pieces
Recommended it? No

I have had my monarchs for two years and i have put them to good use. I hunt a lot and i think that overall the glass is great, very clear and crisp. They let in a lot of light in the early mourning hours and late in the evenings. Not like the expensive Swaroskis or Leicas but... Read full review »

bytc708 Oct 24, 2006
10 Helpfuls 11 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Solid construction, great clarity, compact size, good focus, great warranty
Cons Lens caps less than they could be
Recommended it? Yes

I've always trusted the Nikon name, and these binoculars are another reason why.

The construction is very solid, the rubber armor and the RealTree camouflage finish are both top quality, and the focus wheel is precise and easily found and adjusted. The right eye diopter ring is a little... Read full review »

I bought the Nikon 10x42 Monarch ATB from They're friendly, knowledgeable and very nice people to deal with.

I did a fair amount of research and these looked like what I wanted. They're light weight, good features (fog/water/shock proof) and most importantly, they have... Read full review »

Excellent choice - lightweight, good optics - great guarantee

2 Helpfuls 3 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros lightweight, very small for 10x42's, optics - WARRANTY
Cons lense caps are not very good
Recommended it? Yes

After reading a lot of on-line reviews I bought the Nikon's and I couldn't be happier. They have an excellent in-the-hand feel, they are very light compared to competitive models, very small in size for 10x42's, the optics are A-1 for this price point and the 100% coverage warranty is terrific;... Good value in a hunting/birding binocular

byrushlies Nov 28, 2005
9 Helpfuls 10 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Fully multi-coated lenses, rubber casing, water-proof, eyeglass-friendly, light-weight...
Cons Included lens caps are almost worthless. A small price to pay for such a value.
Recommended it? Yes

For a compact, lightweight set of binoculars that features fully multi-coated lenses, the Nikon Monarch is an excellent value. The twist-up eyecups will be appreciated by the many eyeglass wearers (like myself) who have a need to use binoculars on more than casual occasion. When twisted down, they... Read full review »

Pros Optics, quick focus, price, warrantee!
Cons Padded cash could be a little larger
Recommended it? Yes

I researched binoculars for some time, even purchased several different brands to see what they were like and how they compared.

With the 10x magnification and the 42 light opening and a 314 @ 1,000 yard view. There is nothing better for the money. The clarity is incredible, quick focus,... Read full review »

Great Choice for Budget Minded Glass, but More Savings Can Be Less Performance...

bynick1326 Nov 13, 2003
23 Helpfuls 24 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Excellent image quality, construction 30mm tube, bang for the buck
Cons not a swarovski, kahles or Zeiss, but a very good scope for half the price
Recommended it? Yes

The Topic of rifle scopes can be a tremendously debated topic. Choosing a scope in fact is probably more difficult than choosing a rifle! Once you've established what you're shopping for (target, hunting, bench-rest etc) you can eliminate options and narrow down your choices- however in general,... Read full review »
