Highly recommended for casual birding
First, a short primer on binocs in general. There are two basic types of binoculars. These are Porro prism and roof prism.
You can tell the types apart by their shape. Porro prisms have an angular appearance which makes them appear M-shaped when looking at their barrels. Focusing a Porro...

Nikon Monarch ATB 10X42 Binocular
I was looking for a lightweight good quality binocular and these Nikon Monarch Binoculars werejust what I was looking for. Going from close-focus to infinity with precision can be accomplished almost instantaneously. The light weight means you'll have a steady, sharp view of your intended... Read full review »
Very good in price range
I've had these for about a year and have had several pairs of binoculars, in the same price range or cheaper, in the past. The first thing I noticed about these binoculars was that they were lighter than other 10x42's I had. That was a benefit to me, but others may prefer more weight if... Read full review »
The good and the bads of my Nikon monarchs
Optics/Quality
I have had my monarchs for two years and i have put them to good use. I hunt a lot and i think that overall the glass is great, very clear and crisp. They let in a lot of light in the early mourning hours and late in the evenings. Not like the expensive Swaroskis or Leicas but...

Quality & clarity at a great price
I've always trusted the Nikon name, and these binoculars are another reason why.
The construction is very solid, the rubber armor and the RealTree camouflage finish are both top quality, and the focus wheel is precise and easily found and adjusted. The right eye diopter ring is a little...

Better than expected......................
I bought the Nikon 10x42 Monarch ATB from Binoculars.com. They're friendly, knowledgeable and very nice people to deal with.
I did a fair amount of research and these looked like what I wanted. They're light weight, good features (fog/water/shock proof) and most importantly, they have...

Excellent choice - lightweight, good optics - great guarantee
After reading a lot of on-line reviews I bought the Nikon's and I couldn't be happier. They have an excellent in-the-hand feel, they are very light compared to competitive models, very small in size for 10x42's, the optics are A-1 for this price point and the 100% coverage warranty is terrific;... Good value in a hunting/birding binocular
For a compact, lightweight set of binoculars that features fully multi-coated lenses, the Nikon Monarch is an excellent value. The twist-up eyecups will be appreciated by the many eyeglass wearers (like myself) who have a need to use binoculars on more than casual occasion. When twisted down, they... Read full review »
Best Buy for the Buck
I researched binoculars for some time, even purchased several different brands to see what they were like and how they compared.
With the 10x magnification and the 42 light opening and a 314 @ 1,000 yard view. There is nothing better for the money. The clarity is incredible, quick focus,...

Great Choice for Budget Minded Glass, but More Savings Can Be Less Performance...
The Topic of rifle scopes can be a tremendously debated topic. Choosing a scope in fact is probably more difficult than choosing a rifle! Once you've established what you're shopping for (target, hunting, bench-rest etc) you can eliminate options and narrow down your choices- however in general,... Read full review »
