Great camera for intermediate photographers
I have this camera and it works great! I love how most of my pictures have turned out. I've just started doing photography as a hobby and I don't know much about the technical aspects of a camera yet. So sometimes I don't know how to fix a setting so the picture turns out weird. But overall, I... Read full review »

Best Camera we've owned
As our baby daughter was becoming more mobile, we quickly realized that the run-of-the-mill digital cameras were not up to the task of catching her in action. Most of them have to much latency between when you push the shutter release button until they capture the picture.
We did some...

An excellent starter digital SLR
I purchased the Nikon D70 about two and a half years ago, when I temporarily moved from the United States to Rome, Italy. I had long thought about getting a digital SLR, but both the price and the abandonment of film gave me pause. With an upcoming move abroad, however, I made the leap--knowing... Read full review »
This Camera Dies out of a Sudden
I am a Canadian Nikon user. I had this camera over a year, without any problem. And one day, I was on a road trip to New Jersey with my kids to visit my cousin. Everybody was happy and we wanted to take some pictures. But all of a sudden, the camera didn't work. My cousin firmly told me that there... Read full review »
Love My D70
When I decided to upgrade to a digital SLR I felt like I didn't have many options. I already owned a film SLR - the Nikon N65 - and had invested in a few lenses for it. Because Nikon lenses have the motor built into the lens rather than the body they will not work on other cameras. This limitation... Read full review »
Excellent Entry Level Body With A Few Compromises
First I would like to note I'm not going to cover every spec of the camera because the specifications can be found on the box or Nikon's website and I refuse to use that as filler like some reviewers will This is clearly not what this site was intended for when it was first created. With that... Read full review »
A Great First DSLR
The D70s body was a strong, solid body. I purchased this body from Cameta Cameras on Ebay with the 18-70mm lens for about $1300 in the early Spring of 2007. I used it primarily for my storm chase season that year before trading it out for another Nikon model. The D70s was a great first DSRL camera... Read full review »
More than I could have ever asked for...
Wow - I have been shooing with Nikon cameras since the Nikon FE was introduced and have always been very impressed with the Nikon's cameras and lenses. Now that I have moved beyond 35mm film cameras and am embracing digital SLR cameras, it made complete since that I would look to Nikon for a... Read full review »
Not very happy with this camera
I have owned this camera for about two years, and it has been a source of frustration from the beginning. I used to be a pretty good photographer with my Nikon FE2 film camera. I'm glad I kept it. With the D70 I find my results to be unpredictable. Sometimes I get a clear photo, other times not... Read full review »
I take it everywhere.
I finally upgraded to this entry-level digital slr and I am very glad I chose Nikon.
This camera can do it all. Sure it's got auto-mode but this baby is for those who want control. You can control aperture, shutter speed, or both in manual. You can set the ISO, or let it auto configure. With...

Nikon D70 Digital SLR
I have had my Nikon D70 SLR for about 2 years now and I think that it is an excellent camera. It is good for anyone who is beginner or intermediate looking for a great camera to either start using digital SLR or even transition from film to digital. The camera is fairly easy to use and if you don't... Read full review »

Incredible Digital SLR
I purchased this camera body for about $650 in May 2006. After doing a ton of research, I narrowed it down to this camera, the Nikon D100, and a Canon EOS 20D (or at least I think that's what it was called).
I eliminated the Canon because it was so noisy. I wanted to be able to shoot...

Just buy it! Best buy in past 5 years, maybe longer!
I had the N80 - but couldn't remember how I got the nice pics between when I shot them, and when I got them developed. Dropped a G on the D70 because my old lens were compatible. WOW! If your spouse complains - tough! Buy it - It's great - Shoot, shoot, shoot - fiddle with the buttons - figure it... Read full review »
Near Professional Quality Pictures - Point/Shoot Ease ( Wife and Son Have Used It)
I have had several digitals and recently I sold all of my 35MM equipment and went all digital. I couldn't be happier that I did.
I bought the Nikon N70s with the 18mm-70mm ED lens and a Sandisk 4Gb Extreme III CF card, remote control (ML-L3), and a Nikon SB-800 Speedlight, B W 67MM UV,...

Nikon d70
Sturdy fixture that is not bulky and heavy. I have an old camera bag that easily houses the d70 with 3 lenses. I have dropped it twice and have no scratches or dings. High quality purchase for which I have no regrets. Read full review »
When Going To a Gunfight, Bring a Big Gun
Let's get right to the guts of it. I love my Nikon D70. It is, without a doubt, the most powerful and versatile imaging tool I've ever laid my hands on. I've owned other superb P&S digicams, but comparing them to the D70 is an exercise in futility. The D70 ain't in the same ball park with those P&S... Read full review »
Not bad
I love this camera to death ... The only issue I could possibly have is that now, in 2006, even small "point and shoot" cameras can have more than 6 MP. It is mildly frustrating to spend $1,600 on camera and accessories and have my wife's $200 digital p+s be near the same pixel quality.
That...

Nikon lens compatibility
Just an addendum to a previous comment on using non auto-focus Nikon lenses. After experimenting with my 55mm Nikkor micro, I tried my 24mm f2.8 that I thought would have to shelve for use in the Nikon d70s, based upon feedback received to the effect that non auto-focus lenses wouldn't work on the...
