Like it? I love it!

Pros Ease of use, great quality, sharp pictures, nice help menu, price.
Cons Only 3 focusing points.
Recommended it? Yes

The D40 is one of the lowest priced SLRs on the market. Nikon didn't cut a lot of corners to keep the price down, either -- this is a very capable camera. It has a 6 Megapixel CCD, a large and sharp 2.5" LCD display, full manual controls, an elaborate help system, and the kind of performance that... Read full review »

Nikon D80 18-70mm Zoom

Pros Great results and impressive features. Impressive battery life
Cons Images could be slightly sharper without having to apply external sharpening
Recommended it? Yes

A great camera. Low noise and excellent quality results from the 18-70mm zoom included as part of the kit. I can highly recommend this DSLR for serious amateurs or as an additional camera for professionals. I have been using this kit for a few months now on various assignments and it hasn't let me... Pros Price, design, technology Easy to hold, great size
Cons Can't really think of any
Recommended it? Yes

Bought the D40 on a whim just before Christmas, had used an SLR years back and then had gone to the small, pocket digital cameras we all know so well. The D40 has been great, a lot of fun, easy to use, and takes great pictures. The shutter speed, ability to take pictures of my three year old who is... Read full review »

Great camera, no matter what colonialpara says

bykabeyun Jan 23, 2007

Pros small size, light weight, ease of use, responsiveness, photo quality
Cons limited physical buttons (primarily LCD-driven controls), limited AF zones
Recommended it? Yes

Nikon's new D40 takes point-&-shoot photographers and gives them an outstanding, enabling dSLR camera. It also takes professionals and serious enthusiasts and gives them something much more portable to be their "everyday" dSLR.

colonialpara may be a "top reviewer" but his review rambles... Read full review »

Pros Excellent manual control varied auto modes. A little heavy, but it feels good to me.

I bought the camera SEPT 27, 06 from Circuit City because it was available before a trip. I took about 900 photos in the 8 days and realized somewhere in the last few hundred shots, it would not focus very well. Finally, the lens was going crazy, the wave motor was struggling to find a focus point,... Read full review »

Pros Quality, size, photos, price, etc, etc
Cons You'll love it so much, that your next purchase will be a new Hard Drive.

Sorry nikonians or nikonistas or whatever your name is, but if you are a professional photographer this review is not for you, and neither probably the camera

I always used point a shoot cameras, for my family's trips, parties and some other stuff. I had a Panasonic 3.2 MP then a Canon... Read full review »

Feature-rich at a wonderful price

Pros A HUGE upgrade vs. the D70. Great price/performance ratio
Cons lack of electronic shutter for faster flash synch
Recommended it? Yes

I have to say that the release of the D80 didn't really make a huge splash on the camera scene. I think that's pretty sad because the D80 is not only a worthy successor to the D70 but I strongly feel that it's the first DSLR good enough to be your LAST DSLR. Add in the extreme value of the unit I... Read full review »

Is this camera for real?

Pros Small, light weight, beautifully realized images. Price Point.
Cons Inability to AF with all Nikon lenses. Consumer quality build.
Recommended it? Yes

The Nikon D40 with 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 AF-S AF lens is this company's bare bones entry level offering in the extremely volatile digital SLR market. As the two giants of the industry, Canon and Nikon vie for an ever increasing slice of the dSLR pie, Nikon has taken a calculated marketing gamble by... Read full review »

Pros NONE FOUND YET!
Cons EVERYTHING!!!!!
Recommended it? No

This PSC is the biggest piece of garbage I've have ever purchased. It is CONSTANTLY jamming, mis-aligning, and basically just not working worth a damn. Takes me FOREVER to print, since I'm constantly having to re-feed paper, clear jams, etc. You'd think HP could do better. I did. Read full review »

Cheap to buy, expensive to run.

Pros cheap, and does all functions reliably
Cons running cost and ink usage. slow. Mac driver is not good.
Recommended it? Yes

Reasonable price for so many functions, but the scanning is slow, and the included software is not good. It's hard to set preferences on the PC, and the Macintosh driver is even worse - I found no way to do one-button scanning to PDF Preview with OCR.

running cost
