Absolutely NOT the sequel to ?Mystic Pizza?
Three kids from an Irish neighbourhood in Boston are accosted by a stern plainclothes detective for general adolescent idiocy (writing their initials in wet cement), and one of them is ushered away by the detective. It turns out, he wasn’t a detective but one of a pair of paedophiles who keep... Read full review »
Not for the faint-hearted - or kids
Mystic River (2003) is a tale of violence, yet it does have a story. And it does not depend upon special effects. The stars are there for their acting ability, not for their star power. And they look like real people, not like movie stars. It is based on the novel by Dennis... Read full review »
Grim story line, but very well made movie indeed!
I have seen this four or five times over the past seventeen years, and keep forgetting about it. You may think by that statement think this movie is not that good. I would personally think other wise. Some may even suggest it is a re-work of sleepers, but not me. I am glad I forget about it as... Read full review »
Uncompromising, grueling. A cinematic powerhouse.
Infused with near-biblical power, Clint Eastwood's "Mystic River" is a straight hard drink of masculine theory, a journey into the world's dark, vengeful crevices, where the strong eat the weak, yet are not spared by God, and pay dearly for the feast. Beginning in the streets of Boston during the... Read full review »
The Mystery of Character
I do not think I have enjoyed a film so much when there were absolutely no redeeming characters. There were truly no sympathetic or redeeming characters in Mystic River. It is a film of despair, disconnected characters, and lost youth.
Mystic River starts in the most appropriate way it...

The Last Time I Saw Dave: Mystic River
"We bury our sins here. We wash them clean" Jimmy Markum
Clint Eastwood's Mystic River tells the tale of three scarred men. It poses the question, "can we ever escape our pasts?" A brief prologue establishes that one of the three had had his youth rudely snatched away by a pair of...

Clint Eastwood's Mystic River
****WARNING: This review contains spoilers throughout.****
Mystic River is a sad thing indeed: a film that begins well and then slowly spirals down until it becomes a mess of melodramatic theatrics, plodding scenes, and embarrassing moments of extreme coincidence and convenience.

Why I don't like this wordly acclaimed movie
wanted to watch this movie for quite some time, mostly because it was directed by Clint Eastwood and 3 relatively good actors are in the cast. I am talking about Sean Penn, Tim Robbins and Kevin Bacon. They are not great actors, but they are there And I shouldn't forget Laurence Fishburne, as... Read full review »
Subtle twists and underplayed hints kept me riveted!
I didn't know anything about this movie when I rented it on a whim. I was amazed that I hadn't heard more about it. Sean Penn turned in an Oscar performance, and I've never cared much for him, but he was absolutely compelling, complex, and gave a beautifully understated performance.
The...

Mystic River: wolf justice
I was of two minds when it came to watching this film. The subject matter -- the murder of a young woman -- and the resulting damage that it creates among three men, was something that I knew would disturb me. On the other hand, I had heard and seen quite a few reviews that were praising the film... Read full review »
When your best friend is really not your best friend?Mystic River
I was not really interested in Mystic River when it first hit the theaters. To tell you the truth, I didn't actually hear a lot about the movie until it was nominated at a few of the awards shows. So I surprised myself by picking this movie up one day in Blockbuster. I don't know why I did because... Read full review »
A Promising Drama Sold Out for a Twist
What I get most out of Clint Eastwood's Mystic River is a sense of my dad's Boston. When I mentioned that I'd seen the film, my dad said, "How about those Savage brothers? I knew a lot of guys like that." The Savage brothers are a couple of vicious hoods in the film, guys who'd kill you so you... Read full review »
Outstanding Cast Performance
I love good acting. You can take a simple, mediocre story with a couple of twists and a may-or-may-not-surprise-you ending and make it very enjoyable; with the right cast. I know I have seen movies directed by Clint Eastwood before, but this was the first time that I was paying attention, and I was... Read full review »
For Insomniacs Only!
I recently rented and viewed Mystic River partly because of a friend's recommendation and partly to see what all the hullabaloo over this film was about. Well, i must say it was a bore of a film from start to finish. It never really took off and how it was even nominated for the number of awards it... Read full review »
On Par to Enjoying a Night Watching a Fish in a Fishbowl ? Mystic River
I'm going to lead off with my dissatisfaction with the DVD of Mystic River. Not since the early hay-days of DVD's has a movie been released at full price with so few special features. Besides the movie, the DVD provides nothing! The reason for this lackluster DVD is to cause people to buy first... Read full review »

An Open Letter to Mystic River
"Mystic River," I wanted so long to love you, and love you well. You see, I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask for a divorce. You just didn't live up to my hopes and expectations; when I wanted love, when I wanted fairness, when I wanted trust, you deceived and manipulated me, leaving the foul... Read full review »
Sean Penn and Tim Robbins Turn in Award Winning Performances in Mystic River
Clint Eastwood has been an actor for years. Later in his career, he started to direct as well. He has directed several movies, and won the Oscar for best director for his work on Unforgiven. In the fall of 2003, his newest movie, Mystic River was released.
Dave, Jimmy, and Sean were...

Mystic River
With all of the hype that surrounded Sean Penn's performance in this film, I felt I had an almost civic duty to check out this film. Going into "Mystic River" I must say I had high expectations that this film would not disappoint. I am happy to say that it passed in flying colors.

Mystic River -- Sinkin' like Charles Stuart
Mystic River was the first book by Dennis Lehane that I couldn't finish. As I plowed through it, I found I just didn't really care where the story wound up.
Still, the book receive tons of praise from critics everywhere, and when the movie based on the book did the same, I thought, well,...
