Pros The graphics and music are the best I've experienced in most similar games.
Cons The the game has a few bugs.
Recommended it? Yes

Out of all three from the series, I would have to say that Myst 3 exile is by far the best I've played.

The best part of the game I would say is the music. Each age has a different song. Although it plays throughout the entire game, it never gets tiring. Unlike other games, the music in... Read full review »

Busy work puzzles require a lot of walking

Pros Gorgeous graphical scenery. Storyline unfolds as you go rather than all upfront. 3D...
Cons Many puzzles are too hard to find and too tedious to solve.
Recommended it? No

Descriptions of Myst 3:Exile, as written by other reviewers, are accurate and complete, and it would be a waste of space for me to rewrite all that's been said.

The graphics are great; the 3-D viewability with the mouse takes getting used to but is worth it; the familiarity with Linking... Read full review »

Myst 3: Exile fails to measure up

Cons Pitiful puzzles. Visuals can be too distracting causing you to wonder what you're...
Recommended it? No

Myst 3: Exile, the 3rd sequel in the Myst series, is an overall cool game. It serves it's graphics, from 360 stills to full screen movies, with a sheer, awe-inspiring
amount that is detail-ridden. This doesn't mean much unless that's all your looking for, because the rest of the game is rather... Read full review »

Exile - The Next Chapter of Myst

Pros Next chapter in the series, pretty graphics, interesting plot, 360 degree field of view
Cons probably will need patch download, no replay value
Recommended it? Yes

I got on the Myst train late in the game. Having taken a break from video games through much of the 1990s (college then employment), I was pretty much out of the loop on games during that time.

It was during that time that Myst first hit the shelves. The heated... Read full review »

Pros Amazing graphics, engaging gameplay, a coherent plot!
Cons Constant CD-changing gets annoying, some puzzles are ridiculous

Myst - until just recently, this has been the best - selling, and I mean BEST - selling, PC gaming franchise EVER (The Sims, incidentally, holds that title now). When the original Myst came out a few years ago, it practically turned the gaming world up on its head - this was, THE ultimate gaming... Read full review »

I remember playing the first Myst game and being awestruck. When Riven arrived I was further amazed and intrigued. And now, Myst III: Exile has come to grip me once again.

Remember Atrus? Who Doesn't

The story begins on Atrus' home world of Tomahna. There, you are greeted by... Read full review »

Pros Beautiful game, Excellent Music and Sound effects.
Cons Takes a lot of hard drive space, slow, no DVD version

I have been a long time MYST and Riven Fan! I first purchased MYST in 1993 when it was first released and quickly bought Riven in 1996. I have all three MYST novels and have enjoyed the audio book presentations. I bought the collectors edition because I love the extra items in the game. The only... Read full review »

What happens when you have one of the best selling computer games ever to your name? You get lots of fans? and lots of criticism.
Ever since Myst appeared in 1993, over 10 million copies were sold of the game and its sequel, Riven. Myst was one of the first games ever to appear on a cd-rom,... Read full review »

The Magic Is Back!!!

Cons Wouldn't run without patch from UBI SOFT site. Game is copy protected. No back-up...

This has got to be the best of the Myst series by far! The plot to the story is far more developed than either of it's predecessors. The music is captivating and the graphics are by far the best I have seen. I took a big chance, not even knowing what my graphic card is, if this game would even run... Read full review »

Pros Interesting sophisticated graphics, challenging puzzles
Cons impossibly bad interface
Recommended it? No

I was really looking forward to this game. I liked both its predecessors a lot. The graphics were first rate, the puzzles difficult but fascinating. It was one of the only computer games that kept my interest for very long. And the new version has many of the same qualities, but with a couple of... Read full review »

Pros Does justice to the Myst series, 360 degree view is a very nice feature
Cons Seemed a bit easier than Riven
Recommended it? Yes

Like many Myst and Riven fans, I was disappointed when I heard that Cyan had licensed the Myst series to a different company to produce Myst III. I liked Myst, and to this day Riven is probably my favorite game to date, so seeing that a "3rd Party" was going to produce Myst III scared me.

Pros Can't Play the Game!
Cons Game released with multitude of bugs!
Recommended it? No

This game was released with what seems like minimal beta testing. I recently returned it after spending two months with tech support and getting no answers, until they finally said that they don't think they'll be able to fix the problems with the game. I am by no means alone, check out the tech... Read full review »

Myst & Rivin it ain't

bydougreardon Jul 15, 2001
3 Helpfuls 4 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Visually stunning, easy to complete
Cons Lacks the elegance of Myst and Riven, any puzzle is solvable by brute force
Recommended it? Yes

Myst III demonstrates the difference between art and commerce. While Myst and Riven are obviously works of artistic merit, Exile is obviously written to produce a profit by attaching itself to a stunning artistic achievement. Exile lacks the elegance of it's predecessors. It has several bugs, and... Read full review »

Pros Beautiful graphics, incredible sound, easy play
Cons Sometimes jumpy, locks up computer on occasion.

Even though it wasn't done by the same people, it still has the same quality. When they say they worked hard to make it like the others, they weren't kidding, and they did a great job. The scenery is just incredible, the sound is totally up to par, and the 360 degree turns are smooth and easy.

Pros excellent graphics, pseudo-3D (panoramic), extensive worlds to explore
Cons occasional static game play
Recommended it? Yes

In all honesty, I never thought I liked this kind of game, where nothing really happens and it makes you wonder why should you roam through all those worlds if there is nobody to race or to beat up ...

Well I changed my mind, and initially I wanted to get the full 3D version of Myst, but... Read full review »

Pros Amazing graphics, excellent game play.
Cons Difficult to find clickpoints at times.
Recommended it? Yes

This series of games is kinda like the Godfather movies, in that each one is better than the last. Myst set the standard for gameplay, Riven improved it, and now Exile provides the next logical step.

Like the previous game, you are given a short introduction then dropped in the middle of... Read full review »

Pros great graphics, gameplay, and sound
Cons none

General/Summary: This is an excellent game. Other games like Journeyman 3, Beyond Atlantis, etc are likewise excellent but suffer from incredibly large inventories of things you can and must pick up, and from stories that are just plain dumb - simply an excuse for gameplay.

Myst 3: Exile,... Read full review »

Pros Don't Know, the game never ran
Cons Be very, very, careful. All system requirements are not listed
Recommended it? No

I really hate to bash a game that is probably as good or better than the first two. (Myst and Riven) I have spent two weeks trying to get this game to run right. The simple truth is, if your system drivers won't support DirectX 8, the game won't run.

The frustrating part is that you don't... Read full review »

Cons Lifeless, dated 2D backgrounds; some puzzles nearly impossible without cheating

Myst III: Exile is the long-awaited latest installment in the multi-million selling Myst adventure game series. It's an enjoyable, polished, engaging sequel. However, hard-core gamers will sneer at the lack of 3D graphics and slow-paced action, and others may get frustrated with the more... Read full review »

Pros Fantastic! Much better than previous Myst's. Great 360 degree viewing!
Cons Could be slow on your older machine. Finished too fast.
Recommended it? Yes

I've played all the games in the Myst series and I've got to say that this is the best of them all. The original Myst was a jaw dropper and brought a new dimension to puzzle type games. Riven was larger and more complex, but was too complicated in places. Real Myst was a great exploration into what... Read full review »
