Windows 7 - Windows Win?
The best Windows yet, quick operation, looks awesome and is awesome on all specs
Too many viruses, iffy networking and bluetooth, can't compete with Linux and Mac's included extras
The Bottom Line:
I definately recommend Windows 7. It's a great operating system with great speed and looks. While it has the standard Windows issues, it's a real step up from Windows Vista.
This is definately the best version of Windows out there as of right now. Not too expensive for most users and so much more secure, stable and useful than Windows Vista that it really could save Microsoft a lot of headaches from people considering making the switch to Mac OS X. It's certainly the best version of Windows yet, by a long shot, but it does have it's issues.
Of course, there's the ever-prevalent issue of viruses, trojans and worms that eat Windows for breakfast. Then there's the strange bluetooth connection that just plainly barely works. The networking could use some help too, as it can be a bit hard to reach things like your IP and DNS settings.
Also, the feature set that it comes with just can't compete with the extras that come with Linux and Mac OS X, as Apple develops their iLife suite in-house so costs are down and Linux comes with free, open source software.
Now the cons are out of the way, let's get to the good stuff. This is quite simply the best version of Windows yet. It's quick to install, start up, use and shutdown. Windows Aero looks great and the new taskbar is awesome for simple and hard-core users alike. The sheer amount of software available for Windows 7 is enough to draw many people in too.
Gaming also rocks on Windows, as most computer games are Windows only, although most come out on console too.
