For around $1,000 per appliance, any consumer should expect things to be in good working order (especially a mom of 2 young, active children). I purchased the Maytag Front-Loading Washing Machine (MFW9700SQ1) from the Home Depot in Baltimore, MD. Much to my surprise, the manufacturers' 'Made In' sign had Germany rather than China--so I thought the product would be as durable as other appliances from Germany. The order process was rather simple and delivery was taken days after placing the order. Leon, our nice delivery man, made sure to run through the cycles ensuring that the machine would switch on and fill up. Since that test was rather simple, I assumed the washing machine would stand up to a real load of laundry--sheets. Unfortunately, about two minutes into the cycle I got an error code F05. The American call center agent at Maytag was able to arrange a service call one week from now but could not tell me what F05 error code meant or whether there had been other issues for customers with the same model number. Thumbs up for having an on-shore call center but wouldn't it be nice if the CSRs were equipped with enough information to support a customer interaction, rather than simply taking a service request. It shouldn't be difficult to tell the customer if other people who own the same model number are having similar issues...should it? Having read other customer reviews of Maytag's service on http://www.epinions.com
, I should have known this would happen and am now strapping myself in for a long journey to get the electric board replaced in a BRAND NEW washing machine. Even though I confirmed with Maytag's CSR that the service ticket shows my error code of F05—I am not hopeful that the subcontracted firm Maytag is dispatching will have the right part to fix on their first visit. How many weeks will I have to borrow the neighbor's washing machine while waiting for my BRAND NEW one to be fixed? People, if you are after a product and see anyone complain of service issues--please take them seriously. Had I realized this, I would have spent $300 and just bought another top loader!
