Pros EXPANDABLE memory (MMC cards OK); upgradable; solid unit comfortable in the hands;...
Cons Might be too big/heavy for some people; No built-in place for wrist strap/lanyard;
Recommended it? Yes

I darn near bought a Garmin Legend, and decided to dig a little deeper - I wanted to be SURE it was the unit that suited me best. I stumbled across the Magellan Meridian GPS (base unit) for about the same price (actually the Meridian was a little cheaper in the eBay auctions I was watching), read a... Read full review »

Can't beat it

Pros Accuracy, sat lock, user interface, durability, expandability
Cons No easy way to carry it w/o buying a proprietary strap.
Recommended it? Yes

The more reviews I read of GPS units, the more happy I am with the Meridian series. I currently own two, one green and one gold. I would recommend spending the extra $50 to upgrade. The newer software that comes with the Meridian Gold (5.12) seems a bit more refined than the latest for the... Read full review »

Pros Nice picture, ease of use, not too spendy
Cons batteries go quickly, often times it takes a couple of minutes to initialize
Recommended it? Yes

Bought this color gps online about a month ago brand new for 280 shipped to my front door. As with all my reviews, this is another short and sweet review. I've used it to find stores, mark my favorite fishing spots, and just usual playing around. I'm glad I bought the color, as it is a lot easier... Read full review »

Still probably the best of budget units

Pros Waterproof, SD slot, 16 MB built-in memory, quick acquisition, marine features
Cons Eats batteries, often clumsy user interface
Recommended it? Yes

This unit was highly recommended to me by a friend when I was looking for a GPS unit to use when kayaking on the coast of NC. I decided on it when I saw that it was waterproof, had a memory expansion slot, and included most marine navpoints and features.

I found a brand-new one on E-Bay... Read full review »

Pros Great GPS for the dollar.
Cons Short memory, slow for downloads and not very waterproof!
Recommended it? Yes

I always get lost on car trips, so my husband bought me this little gadget. I've used this GPS for mountain biking, hiking, and positioning myself on the highway. It has saved me from ending up in another nation several times.
It is pretty easy to use, but there are also some features that I... Read full review »

Pros Excellent unit.
Cons The Map Send Streets software is useless!
Recommended it? No

This is a very good GPS unit.
The problem is that Magellan uses a map database vendor that is the WORST!
The base map is OK, not real accurate (it showed my cabin by a lake as being IN the lake) but good for general highway usage.
The problem is in the Map Send Streets software... Read full review »

A great unit for moderate use

Pros waterproof, floats, high amount of variables can be put in, WAAS, price
Cons Must buy additional software to get all the functions of this unit
Recommended it? Yes

This is the first GPS unit I have bought. I did a lot of research before I purchased this unit, which I will primarily use for fishing.
I wanted a unit that was 12 channel, provided mapping views (as compared to directional views only), and one that would allow for a lot of waypoints to be... Read full review »

Pros Clear display and well made
Cons Documentation and customer service
Recommended it? Yes

I just purchased the Meridian Color in a kit that contains:
MapSend DirectRoute Software, Magellan 64Mb SD Memory Card, Vehicle Mounting Bracket, and PC Cable with Cigarette Lighter Adapter.

The unit and software seem to work well. I had a question about what the largest SD RAM card... Read full review »

Pros Fast and accurate satellite lock even under heavy tree cover
Cons Could use a USB hookup for map loading function
Recommended it? Yes

This unit was purchased to aid in guide duties for grass roots mining exploration field duties in Timmins Ontario.

The units most prominent feature is its ability to product a solid satellite lock even under moderate to heavy tree cover and this area is specific to what we feel separates... Read full review »

Pros Great for boating and hiking.
Cons Turn by turn directions are sometimes unreliable.
Recommended it? Yes

I witnessed a fellow passenger on an airplane with a GPS and a laptop. I loved it but also wanted one for the canoe and hiking. This unit also works well on the plane. Marking waypoints in advance on the PC and then uploading works well in locating points of interest for car travel. The waypoints... Read full review »
